Laughter, Inspiration and Dreams

Lots of fun stenciling and embossing going on here with a wonderful chalkboard sentiment from the Chalkboard Wisdom plate.  Chalkboard style is so popular right now and this plate has so many great chalkboard style sentiments to choose from.

This is also my take on Tim Holtz's February tag.  I never copy what he does, but rather use the techniques and most of the products to create my own design.   I have to confess though, I did not use the Frosted Crystal EP to create my chalkboard as Tim did.  I tried.  I waited to get it back in stock at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  And I tried several times but I thought it looked too chalky so I went back to the way I've always done my chalkboard style - I used white craft ink.  But when the ink was dry, I did rub some chalk dust over it with my finger.
I made this pretty tag with several left overs from a previous project this week.  I started with pink and green distress stains blotting up left overs with a tag that I had set aside for later use.  Then I stenciled on Worn Lipstick distress ink with the Tim Holtz Dot Fade stencil and clear embossed it.  Next I stenciled the leaves with a Dyan Reaveley stencil with Mowed Lawn distress ink and clear embossed it.
I love the way the pink embossing which was put on first, came up through the green embossing - very cool look!

The flower was left over from my handmade flower project earlier this year.  It was made with the Jumbo Tattered Florals XL die.  It was a little too big for the card I made for that project, but it worked perfectly on this tag.  The sentiment was stamped with white craft ink and when dry I smeared a little chalk dust over it to make it look more realistic.  It was finished off with glittered On the Edge butterflies.

QUICK UPDATE:  Marci asked about the leaves - they were cut with the Tattered Flowers die and stenciled with Mowed Lawn DI with the Dot Fade stencil and then clear embossed.

Thanks for taking time out of your weekend to stop by!

All of these products used on this tag are available at The Funkie Junkie Boutique where Tim Holtz/Ranger and most other name brand products are always 20% below MSRP.

Your tag is an absolute delight Linda, the colours on the base tag are beautiful, as is that gorgeous vine. Your chalkboard technique is excellent and looks a lot less messy, I think I will have to try out your method! Hugs, Anne x

Beautiful! That rose is gorgeous. I really like the die cut leaves with the rose, are they from the Jumbo Tattered Floral die? Are the polka dots clear embossed? If they are, what stamp did you use on them? I REALLY like them.

Wow your tag is stunning! Looks like we had the same idea using the jumbo flower and some chalking. I just posted a similar project, hehe. Although I used a #10 tag. This one makes the flower look small! Love the paste, it really adds dimension. Love it!

What a beautiful tag! I love the colors and I agree that the pink coming through the green is a cool effect! A really great inspiration from Tim's tag.

Linda I just love your tag its so fresh and makes me feel like spring is around the corner. Your flower is gorgeous too. I use Tims technique with the chalkboard when I am doing my own projects, but when I do my classes I just use white emboss powder as most people have this. I think the effect is stunning which ever way you do it. Yours is stunning. Mo x

Hi Linda. Your tag is absolutely beautiful! That rose...oh that rose! Stunning! I have not tried that chalkboard technique yet...but you're enticing me to jump in! :) I think you would like Dy's sprays. They are vivid but you can spray over them with water to dilute them a little or she has a new White Linen spray that gives more of a shabby chic finish...I also do a lot of blotting to reduce the brightness. Thank you for the very sweet comment you left on my blog. It means alot to me. <3 Candy
