My friend Anita Houston loves using these
JUMBO 8x4" tags for her art and suggested that I carry them in
The Funkie Junkie Boutique. I decided they would be an item paper crafters would enjoy using so I ordered a supply to see how they work out. They arrived on Friday and of course I couldn't wait to try one out. Wow! They are wonderful! They make a really super canvas to work on. I created this tag to play in the
Compendium of Curiosities II #4 challenge - Faded Layers, which can be found on page 43 of the new Compendium II technique book by Tim Holtz. This is another technique that was new to me. I like it a lot, but need practice. You will see that the areas that I masked are very light. I think my first layer of ink was too intense and then when I masked over it, it didn't have a lot of contrast. Oh well, all in all, I am pretty satisfied with how the tag turned out.
Another new process that I learned here was to cut a mask using a die. I had recently purchased the
Tim Holtz Mask Sheets and I cut my own gear mask using the Gadget Gears die. It was super easy and now I have a gear mask that I can use over and over again.
The distress ink colors I used for the technique were Stormy Sky, Crushed Olive, Wild Honey and Vintage Photo. Most of the stamps are from the Paris Exposition set by Artistic Outpost, which I used because the customer referral challenge this month at Artistic Outpost is Travel so I wanted to use a theme that would fit. Other stamps used are from the Office Ephemera and Industrial Backgrounds sets. The sentiment is from the Charles and Amelia set. They were all stamped with Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink.
I threw everything but the kitchen sink at this one including UTEE, Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint, Vintage Photo Distress Stain, Rusty Wire Mesh, Rusty bottlecap, Chipboard alphabet decorative strip die, a rusty bottle cap, a new Tim Holtz mini gear, burlap, burlap twine and corrugated cardboard.
