It's Heartless

Hi there, I'm back again with round two of the Heartless Valentine challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.  This week, our funkie team has their take on Cec's challenge:  Make a Valentine using the traditional colors of red, pink and white but NO HEARTS.

I'm just crazy about Wendy Vecchi's recent makes using rubbing alcohol and archival reinkers.  So I grabbed my red reinker (Vermillion) and some rubbing alcohol plus a piece of Ranger's Specialty Stamping Paper and started playing.  Once the background was completed, I stamped the flower with Jet Black archival and clear embossed it.  Then, using a water brush filled with rubbing alcohol, I applied alcohol to the petals of the flower and blotted it off with a paper towel.  I did that a couple of times and it removed most of the color, leaving it pink.  I also blotted the red off the leaves and painted them with a green reinker using the alcohol filled water brush.

I used a Nestabilities frame to create a rectangular outline using a permanent marking pen.  Masking off the area outside of the rectangle and using a Finnabair Checker stencil from Prima, I stenciled the checks with Jet Black archival.  Then I masked off the inside of the rectangle and stenciled the stripes using a WV stencil.  I added a few doodles and stamped the flourishes and sentiment with Jet Black archival.

It was finished off by applying white Wendy Vecchi embossing paste through a Prima mask and then applied Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter to give it a little bling...another fun play time in my craft room.

Thanks for stopping by.  Please be sure to stop by Frilly and Funkie to check out the other heartless Valentines.

Glad to see someone else is a little obsessed with this technique too! LOVE how this has turned out and how you've 'bleached' the flower to recolour it. Jenny x

No hearts are fine with me. :) I love Wendy's technique too & hope to get some reinkers soon so that I can have a play.

I need some specialty stamping paper lol. I only have alcohol inks, but the effect should be similar, right? I am in love with your card! I want to make one like it if I get a chance, lol. So much of what you did is something I want to try :) Love the way you bleached back the flower and the doodle border!

I love your card, Linda! The colors are so pretty. I love that you were able to remove some of the color from the flower petals and from the leaves. I must try that technique! This is a really pretty card!
