Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #5

Greetings friends and visitors, I'm back to roll out Week #5 of my annual inspiration challenge The 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style.  This is about the easiest challenge you will ever enter.  All you have to do is find one thing about my weekly tag that will inspire you and incorporate that element into some type of winter holiday piece.  It can be something as simple as holly, gold, crinkle ribbon or maybe the baubles and then use that element in your project.  You also have to include a couple of links in your post.  You have until December 19th to finish the challenge.  You can find all the challenge requirements in the Week #1 post.

Here is your inspiration for Week #5.  Using a jumbo manila tag that we sell at The Funkie Junkie Boutique, this week I actually covered the manila tag with a piece of white CS cut to fit over the tag.  I had been dying seam binding for some thank you gifts (that we are sending out with orders from The Funkie Junkie Boutique) by spritzing white seam binding with Tarnished Brass distress spray stain.  When I cleaned up my craft sheet by spraying water on it, I got beautiful bubbles of gold and laid a piece of white CS over it to absorb the leftovers resulting a a nice blotchy white and gold card stock.  It was a little warped when it dried so I flattened it out with my craft iron and then glued a piece over the manila tag.

Now, what could I do with this pretty vintage-looking base?  So many possibilities but I settled on cutting a piece of kraft CS with the holly die from the new Mixed Media Christmas Thinlits die set.  I ripped the edges and sponged them with Vintage Photo DI.  To give some interest, I masked off all but the space where I wanted to place my die cut and then stamped Wendy Vecchi's Text background stamp with Jet Black archival ink and also stamped a little text here and there on other parts of the tag.  I kept it simple by also stamping the text onto some of the holly sprigs that were waste from the die cuts.

Everything then got a bit of vintage gold foiling along the edges, because, you know, I'm suddenly very into foiling - LOL.  I started thinking about what I could use as an embellishment and thought this might be a good time to use Tim Holtz's new Baubles.  I thought I would grab my Gold Alcohol Ink Mixative and turn the Baubles gold.  Well, it didn't work out so great, at least at first glance.  I forgot that Tim Holtz's new way of coloring the baubles was to put them in little cups and swirl them around in the alcohol ink.  I used the old zip lock bag method and it didn't work out great.  The mixative got sort of sticky and the baubles all stuck to the plastic bag. When I pulled them away, some of the gold pulled off.  They were blotchy.  I let them dry and was disappointed with the way they looked.  I started to toss them out, looked at them again and thought hey, these look worn, like the gold had rubbed off.  I actually liked the look - very vintage - LOL, and decided to use them.  They are glued on with Multi Medium Matte.

Finally, I used some of the seam binding I had dyed to tie a triple loop bow.  A sentiment from Mini Holidays #5 was stamped on some of the white and gold CS, cut out and foiled around the edges, completing this week's tag.

Now it's your turn.  You have until December 19th to college all 12 tags if you want to qualify for the $50 prize drawings.  And, don't forget, everyone who completes the challenge according to the requirements will receive a 10% off coupon to shop at The Funkie Junkie Boutique in January 2017.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Can't wait to see what you make!

Hi Linda- Love this tag and how you re-used stuff on your craft table and embraced the baubles - they have so much character. Now that my Halloween projects are done I'm looking forward to playing along!
