Week #3 of the 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style is here! Welcome back friends and visitors. Thanks so much for stopping by for my weekly dose of inspiration. I hope you will consider joining the challenge. There is still plenty of time before the deadline of December 19th. You can get all the details and requirements of this challenge in the Week #1 post here.
This week I returned to the black and gold palette that I used in Tag #1, ratcheting up the intensity of both the black and the gold this week. I began this piece with one of the jumbo manila tags that we sell at The Funkie Junkie Boutique and painted it black with Black Soot distress paint. Luckily, I still had a black distress paint with a dabber top. I like the new flip tops for some applications, but when I want to alter the entire surface of a piece, the dabber tops are the way to go. Two coats of distress paint were required to make it solidly black. Once dry, I used Wendy Vecchi's Gold Embossing Paste over the new Tim Holtz Concerto stencil and bam!, my base was finished. Because the stencil was not as wide as the tag, I had to let the first application of embossing paste dry thoroughly and then moved the stencil and finished covering the tag. There was a little rift where the two stenciling joined which I covered with the cream and gold rick rack. The stencil didn't reach all the way to the top of the tag so I filled in that part in with some of the Design Tape, Tidings, from the new Christmas Idea-ology collection.
Next two white doves were cut from the Enchanted Doves Bigz die. I cut two more doves from chipboard and layered them together because I wanted them to have a lot of dimension. The Holiday Script Mini Stencil (set #20) was used to stencil the doves. I applied Embossing Ink through the stencil, gold embossed it and edged it a bit with Vintage Photo distress ink. The olive branch was colored with Evergreen Bough distress ink and edged heavily with Vintage Photo. I lightly dabbed embossing ink on it and applied Sticky Embossing Powder. While it was still hot, I lightly rubbed on a sheet of gold foil from Ranger's Vintage Shiny Foil Transfer Sheets. I love how it didn't solidly foil it. It's sort of rough and patchy and I tried to do it that way when I applied the same process to the black snowflakes. Sometimes you have to flick off more of the sticky EP before heating on.
The snowflakes were cut with the new Paper Snowflakes Mini Thinlits. The white ones were embossed with an ancient Judi-kins glittery Egyptian Gold EP and the black ones had the Vintage shiny foil transfer heat applied. I topped them off with a new little embellishment from The Funkie Junkie Boutique - the Drusy Resin Dome Seals Cabochon Round Gold 8mm. They make great centers for things like snowflakes and handmade flowers.
The little dove charm is one that we purchased at the boutique to give away in our thank you gifts this month. The gift contained a large and small white card stock die cut doves, white CS olive branch, a vintage dove Christmas card, the silver dove charm and a piece of green burlap string. I changed the silver dove to gold tone using Gold Alcohol Ink Fixative (shook it well and dripped it on, then made sure it was completely covered using a paint brush).
One of the black and gold labels from the new Metallic Stickers Labels was applied and then the Be Joyful sticker from the Metallic Stickers Holiday Talk was applied over it to give a sentiment to this piece.
And that's a wrap for this week's tag. I hope you are able to find some inspiration and even better, that you will want to play along. Thanks again for stopping by.
The products below were used to make this tag. They can all be purchased at 20% below MSRP at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Wonderful tag with some great tecniques!! I don't know why and how I managed to miss the first two, off to check them now. I'll try my utmost to be part of the challenge again this year, the one year I did it was so much fun. Thanks for doing this again!
Gorgeous tag!!! I absolutely LOVE that gold embossing paste over the black!!! Must try that soon!!!
As much as I love Christmas I get quite anxious about the time that is left and what I have left to do, like hand made gifts. This tag is amazing and I love the things you have used. Lovely doves, and ricrac on there too. :) Would love to have that hanging around my house ;)
Thanks for sharing
I just recently found your blog and loved making the tags. Your tags are an inspiration. Love the gold paste on this card and the music notes stencil
A very classy beauty this week Linda! I love the touch of green from the olive branch!
