Travel Ways with Frilly and Funkie

Hi all, thanks for stopping by today!  I have my project for this week's Funkie inspiration at Frilly and Funkie to share.  I didn't put it up yesterday because of the Artistic Outpost release hop and I don't like to do two postings in one day.  I made it along the lines of Tim Holtz's August tag.  I don't usually follow his so closely, but I needed a travel themed project for F&F this week and since August is almost over, thought I would combine the two challenges.    I used the Travel Ways set which are miniatures  of the three sets he used.  I actually like this set better, size-wise I find it more flexible.  I stamped the travel images from that set, masked them off and then stamped the travel images from the Mini Blueprints 3 set in Cobalt archival over top of them.  The background was made with Frayed Burlap and Weathered Wood distress stains.   I perked it up just a bit by using Vermillion archival for the red stamping.  The travel documents/advertisements were also stamped using the Travel Ways set.  I altered the Word Band with Red Pepper alcohol ink and then gave it a coating with Picket Fence DS to make the words white.  I was able to wipe the distress stain off the top with a damp paper towel.  

I feel like this tag doesn't pop - doesn't have much of a personality of it's own, but I was struggling a bit for time and mojo and this is what I ended up with.  I had just finished up making 6 pieces for the Artistic Outpost release and I guess my mojo was pretty much used up by that point.  I'll give it a little rest over the weekend and start playing again on Sunday.

Dreams are Forever

Hello friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I'm here to bring you the monthly Artistic Outpost release hop.  This month, Artistic Outpost is releasing two new sets - Chalkboard Wisdom and Chalk it Up - and I have had lots of inky fun playing with them! These stamp sets coordinate wonderfully with each other and also look fabulous with many of the other plates Artistic Outpost has to offer!   Chalk it Up features frames, collage elements, and lovely chalky bits, while Chalkboard Wisdom features plenty of inspiration with the hand lettered style set of sentiments.

I made six samples for this release and will be sharing them over the next few weeks.  I picked my favorite one to use for today's blog hop - made with my new favorite Maja Design paper.  I'll tell you about it in a minute, but first I wanted to give you the hop line up.  In case you don't really want to know all the nitty gritty details, you can hop right on to the next stop on the list.

Starting with some papers from the Vintage Summer collection, I distressed the edges with my fingernail, tearing little breaks in the edges occasionally, then sponged the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.    The sentiment and frame were stamped on some of the Maja paper with Jet Black archival ink and fussy cut out.  I made the flowers by cutting white card stock with the Tattered Flowers Decorative Strip die, stamped them with the ledger sheet stamp from Ephemera Backgrounds in Vintage Photo and then sponged the edges with Aged Mahogany DI.  I misted them to let the ink react and blend a bit and then shaped the leaves and layered them together.  The leaves were cut with the same die, sponged with Peacock Feathers DI and edged with Vintage Photo, then flicked with water droplets a la Tim Holtz.  

My butterfly was cut with the Mini M&S Butterflies from acrylic packaging and alcohol ink was applied.  I'm sorry but I don't know what colors, but it matched wonderfully with the colors of the card, I just had to use it.  It was one of those little treasures that float around the craft desk, surplus from a prior make just waiting for the right piece of art to join.  I added a few sprigs of dried baby's breath and a couple of copper filigree corners from my little boutique.  

I've been getting a LOT of use from the Vintage Summer Basics from Maja Design which can be purchased in my boutique.  Absolutely lovely vintage designs and is also available in the 6x6" pads!

Sailing Away

Hello again, I'm back today to share a card I made for our newly kicked off challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.  Cec is our host for this fortnight and she has a delightful challenge for us.  She's calling it My Steamer Trunk and we are to make a piece of artwork inspired by what comes to mind when we think of a steamer trunk - either what we pack in it or where we go with it.  

I was inspired to pull out an oldie but goodie Stampin' Up! set called World Tour that is full of travel labels, seals and other travel icons.  I stamped them in various colors of archival ink and trimmed them out.  My post card from Paris is a digital download given free by the very talented Astrid McLean.  (be sure to check out her My Freebies tab for lots of yummy vintage digital downloads).  

I mounted the images on a piece of Tim Holtz design paper, but you can't even seen the design.  And I also included a torn piece of card stock that had been run through the Tim Holtz Air Mail texture fade.  Can't see much of that either, I'm afraid, but it does give a nice bit of texture in the background.  It was sponged with Vintage Photo DI to bring out the design.  I topped it off with a flower cluster - flower an old Prima stash find, mounted on rayon seam binding bow which has been dyed with Vintage Photo Distress Stain, watered down a bit.  I added a scrap of vintage netting, burlap string bow and a vintage button.  Other vintage buttons lend a bit of feminine influence to the piece.  The sentiment is from the Tim Holtz Simple Sayings set stamped in Cobalt archival ink.
