Birds and Nests

We're kicking off a brand new project over at Frilly and Funkie today.  Donna is our host and her challenge theme is Birds and Nests.  Hope you will join in - easy peasy, just include a bird and nest somewhere on your project.

For my project, which can be a free standing piece or a wall hanging, I started with a vintage image of a lovely bird's nest with eggs from The Graphic Fairy. Cutting a Pocket Watch Frame/Sized Circles from white chipboard, I then ran it through the Springtime Texture Fade and sponged the image and the Pocket Watch frame with Vintage Photo.  I hand cut a little tattered banner and stamped it with Tumbled Glass DI using the Simple Sayings set from Tim Holtz.  Using the Melissa Frances cream plated ribbon, I glued it to the back of the Pocket Watch Frame.

I used Scattered Straw distress stain to color the shabby seam binding as well as the tiny Venise tri-but applique.  The plaid button is also from my boutique.  Once assembled, I glued it onto a distressed square of paper from the Pion Design set For Mother and then layered all of that over a square cream doily.  Finally, the entire piece was glued to a piece of white/ivory corrugated cardbard.
The next is made from burlap threads, the pearls were colored with a very thin coating of Carmel alcohol ink and dotted with Walnut Distress Paint using a toothpick.  The large floral lace applique is also available in the boutique.

Don't forget, Melissa Frances products are the Friday Focus this week and are 15% off through Thursday.

I hope you will stop over to the Frilly and Funkie blog to see the other Frilly designers' creations.  We would love to have you play along with us for this challenge and you just might end up winning a $25 gift certificate to The Funkie Junkie Boutique!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Just a note:  This piece is for sale for $20 (free shipping).  It is 8.75x8.75".  Actually, anything you see on my blog from the past six months is probably still available as I haven't had time to list them anywhere for sale.  If you are interested in anything, please email me at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com.  Most pieces are $7.50 with free shipping, priced basically to move them out of my studio and recover some of the cost involved in creating them.

These products used to make this piece can be purchased at The Funkie Junkie Boutique:
