Be Thankful

Hi there!  A warm welcome, especially to my newest followers.  So glad you are all stopping by to take a quick peek at my newest card.  I made this Thanksgiving card for the new Frilly and Funkie challenge.  Rebecca is our hostess this fortnight and she wants us "to use this challenge to create a card or project that reflects the abundance of the harvest season and the gratitude we express during the beautiful holiday of Thanksgiving".

I went back one more time to the lovely Maja Design Walking in the Forest 12x12 collection for my background papers, distressing the edges with my fingernail, creating a few rips and then sponging the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink.

I hand dyed the lovely Venise lace, cut a tag with an old Spellbinders die from Walking in the Forest and stamped it with an equally as old Inkadinkado acrylic stamp.  I used Potting Soil archival ink to stamp with as it is the best ink to use for stamping with acrylic stamp.

The flowers were cut with a combination of Mini Tattered Florals M&S dies as well as the Tattered Flowers decorative strip die from white card stock.  They were colored with Dried Marigold distress stain and spritzed with Perfect Pearls Heirloom Gold mist.  The leaves were also cut from white card stock using the mini Tattered Leaves die, stamped with a Wendy Vecchi polka dot stamp using Orange Blossom archival ink and then spritzed with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls mist.

The seam binding was dyed with Dried Marigold reinker.  The triple loop bow was topped with a burlap string bow and a button.  The netting used to accent the flower was dyed with Faded Jeans distress stain.

Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #6

 Hello!  Welcome back to the 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style!  I hope you all had a terrific (and crafty) weekend.  I'm back for week #6.  Yes, that's right folks, we are half way through the 12 tags of 2013!  But don't worry.  You have another six weeks to finish all 12 tags - all 12 links are open through December 22nd and you can complete the tags in any order.  All the "rules" are found in Week #1 post.

Here's my tag #6.  I had promised more traditional Christmas colors this week so I decided to go back to the Maja Design It's Christmas Time patterned paper.  I love the muted vintage country style of this collection.  I started with a one of the jumbo non-branded manila tags sold in the boutique and stamped the text stamp from Stuff to Say in Jet Black archival.  Next, two pieces of the designer paper were cut to layer over the tag.  I distressed the edges with my fingernail, ripping them a bit, and then sponged the edges with Vintage Photo DI.

A rectangle was cut from what CS with one of the Sized Rectangle M&S dies and then cut again across the top with the Torn Notebook On-the-Edge die.  It was sponged with Vintage Photo DI and then stamped in Frayed Burlap DI with the pine needles/pine cone stamp from Mini Holidays 3.  I decided I wanted a little bling so I misted it with Perfect Pearls Heirloom Goldl mist.  The '25' was cut from plain gray chipboard and then painted white with Picket Fence distress paint.    When dry, it was edged with Vintage Photo DI and stamped with the ledger stamp from a Wendy Vecchi set.  Then it was also misted with the same Perfect Pearls mist in the Perfect Pearls color.  The cute little cardinals were cut with the Mini Poinsettia and Cardinal die from kraft core paper, sanded and accented with colors using Copic markers.

The pine tree was also stamped with the text stamp from Stuff to Say, sponged with Iced Spruce and then sponged a bit more with Frayed Burlap, then painted with Clear Rock Candy crackle paint.  The bow is natural woven jute ribbon which is sold in the boutique.

Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #4

 I can hardly believe that it's Monday again and time for Week #4 of the 12 Christmas tags challenge.  How does the time fly by so fast?  I had a busy week...finished my taxes, shipped over 50 orders from the Boutique, cleaned my house and entertained house guests for the weekend, all the while training for a 60+ mile bike ride, which I cycled in on Saturday.  So Sunday, it was back to the craft table to finish a couple of DT pieces due this coming week plus come up with the design for Tag #4 to inspire you (I hope you are playing along).

This was a tough one.  It's funny how sometimes a piece will come together easily and other times it will be such a struggle.  This was the latter.  I think I fiddled around with it for over 3 hours!  I knew I wanted to use some of the yummy designer paper from the Maja Design It's Christmas Time collection but didn't have a design in mind.  I started by cutting/tearing two strips of the paper to use for my background and had the brainstorm of running a strip of embossing paste lengthwise along each edge and then dry embossing it when it was dry.  I thought it would add a nice texture to tie piece.  So I mixed up a blog of white embossing paste (probably about 2 tbsp) and mixed in about 3 drops of Iced Spruce reinker.  I spread it along the edges and smoothed it out with a credit card.  When dry, I embossed it with the one of the border texture fades from the Valentine's Backgrounds and Borders set.  The burlap squares were a quick and easy idea, brushing them with a dab of gesso to add more of a country look.  I started to cut the letters with the new foil cardstock and the Vintage Marketplace strip die, but then remembered these Cirque Industrious Sticker letters which I absolutely love and which match the Industrious borders.  I ended up using both and really like the way it looks.

I used the Tattered Poinsettia and the Mini Poinsettia dies to cut more of the Maja designs papers.  I topped off my flowers with some pretty silver end caps from my jewelry making supplies.
