Chipboard and Metal

Hello and happy Wednesday.  I'm back today with the Frilly side of things at Frilly and Funkie.  The lovely and talented Marjie Kemper is our hostess this fortnight and her challenge to use is to use chipboard (snowflake) and metal (rusty bell) on our projects.  For my frilly piece, I Photoshopped two vintage images together for my focal piece and sponged the edges with Vintage Photo DI.  The layers were embossed with the Tim Holtz Snowflurries texture fade, the white one sponged with Vintage Photo again and the red one, which was embossed on kraft core paper, was sanded with my TH Sanding Grip. The bottom red layer was dry brushed with gesso.  I followed Mojo Monday sketch 267 and ran a piece of sanded kraft core cut with the Vintage Lace die across the top of my vintage image per the sketch.  A bit of rayon seam binding was dyed with red reinker and became the base for a rusty bell dry brushed with gesso and a tiny white Venise tribud that I handpainted red.  I layered a rosette and two snowflakes together and topped it with another red-dyed tribud as my finisher.

That's it.  I know it's super simple but I'm up to my ears in moving details plus keeping up with a 10% off sale at The Funkie Junkie so time is very short these days.  Here's the merged vintage image as a freebie if you want it.

Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #9

Welcome back to the 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style challenge.  Thank you so much for visiting me and a special thanks to those of you who are playing along with this challenge.  If you are new to the challenge, you can find all the ins and outs of it in this post.

This is week #9 and I have a rustic country look going on with my tag this week.  I cut my tag from a sheet of dark brown CS and embossed it with the TH Woodgrain Texture Fade.  Then a think coat of Picket Fence Crackle Paint was applied.  When dry, I sanded it lightly to give it more of a distressed look.  The stars were cut from chipboard with the Sizzix Stars #2 die.  For the red ones, I cut another set from vanilla CS and stamped the ticking stamp from Kudzu Kafe in Barn Door DI, then sponged the edges with Vintage Photo DI.  For the smaller dangling stars, after die cutting them I took the raw chipboard and painted them with Espresso Alcohol Ink and when dry, I dry brushed them with gesso.  Both the holly leaves and the scroll up top were cut from thin white chipboard, sponged with Pine Needles DI and then embossed with the Enamelware EP from Ranger, a big favorite of mine.  I added tiny rusty bells with jump rings and they are dangling from TH wire pins.  Country gingham fabric makes the bow and some buttons and burlap string finish the piece off.  Most of the products are available at The Funkie Junkie Boutique which is having a 10% off moving sale at this time.

Snowy Background

Good Saturday morning friends!  I'm back today with my weekly challenge card for Our Creative Corner.  This week the talented Ms. Sue Butler is our hostess and she is challenging us to make our own background.  And I do mean it's a challenge!  Wait 'til you see the cool makes the design team has created!  I did a pretty simple masked and stamped background, starting with the music stencil from Tim Holtz, I then stamped over it with the music stamp from Artistic Outpost in Jet Black Archival Ink.    To add a little extra interest, I stamped a random dotted pattern in Snow Cap acrylic paint.

Other than that, it is pretty straight forward.  The holly leaves were cut with a Tim Holtz die as was the snowflake rosette.  The small snowflake in the center of the rosette is a SU die and the tiny snowflakes are from a Martha Stewart punch.  Santa and the sentiment are from the Artistic Outpost set Snowy Woods.

Moving Sale Kicks Off at The Funkie Junkie Boutique

It's official...we have a contract on our Miami home and will be moving November 28th.  So I need to trim down on my inventory at The Funkie Junkie Boutique in preparation for the move.  The 10% discount sale will start Wednesday, November 7th and run through Friday, November 23rd (Black Friday here in the U. S.).  As of November 24th, the shop will be closed until we move and get re-settled, probably mid-December.

Everything in the store is discounted 10%, except the Friday Focus items which are discounted 15%.  I know 10% off doesn't sound like a lot, but keep in mind that my Ranger, Melissa Frances and other name brand products are always sold at 20% below MSRP.  The 10% off does not show on the each individual price listing.  You will see the 10% deducted automatically when you check out.  Shop early as supplies are limited!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Hello again friends!  Today's post is for Frilly and Funkie - it's the Funkie week to play in our Tic Tac Toe challenge.  For this piece, I chose the left to right diagonal Metal, Metallic Stains and a Button.  I based it on a jumbo tag that I had done the Crumpled Kraft Suede technique on.  LOVE this technique which is new to me.  It makes a wonderful background for a project.  I used two different Artistic Outpost sets for this tag.  The background was stamped mostly with the Industrial Backgrounds set and the top layer stamps are mostly from Diesel Punk.  I did use an old, old Hero Arts Happy Birthday stamp, mostly because that was the only one I had small enough to fit on the tickets.

If you double click on the photograph, you can see the metallic stains.  I used Tarnished Brass, which I blotted small spots on my craft sheet and then rubbed the tag over it.  It just stained the high points and made a nice pattern, which of course I covered up.  My metal is the metal grid which was originally silver, but I rubbed embossing ink on it and then heat embossed Black Soot Distress EP on it.  I used two TH ticket dies and the buttons are vintage ones from my stash.
