Whitewash Resist

 

Welcome back, friends.  I'm here today to share a card I made for the new challenge kicking off at Frilly and Funkie.  Our hostess is Sue Carrington and she wants us to show her how we can "resist".  I used two types of resist on this piece.  One is the traditional emboss resist and the other was done using Tim Holtz's whitewash stamping technique.  That's the challenge over at Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities 2 challenge this week, which is on page 47 of the Compendium 2 book.  The emboss resist was done on the dress form and the sentiment using white embossing powder.  Then Faded Jeans DI was sponged over the dress form and stamped over the sentiment.  The whitewash stamping was done on the background panel.  It's the very subtle design stamped with the Fabulous Flourishes stamp.  I did remember to take a photo of it this time before I covered it all up with embellishments.

The cardstock on the background panel is kraft that has had Faded Jeans blended into it, the flower was cut from ticking fabric with my fav die Tattered Florals.   I followed Marjie Kemper's suggestion from this post and backed up the flimsy fabric with Clearly for Art film to help the flowers keep their dimension instead of laying flat.

I used Faded Jeans distress stain to color the jute ribbon and adhered a piece of Melissa Frances resin embellishment which I couldn't resist sponging with a bit of Vintage Photo DI.   I rubbed some Snow Cap alcohol ink mixative over the scissors  to coordinate them with the other embellies and finished it off with a couple of rusty hearts just dabbed a bit with gesso on my finger.  The tribud applique was white and I painted it with a bit of Faded Jeans distress stain and that's it.

Sugar Creek Hollow DT Reunion

It's a busy Saturday here at The Funkie Junkie with my second posting of the day.  Going back about two years, I was a member of the first design team at Sugar Creek Hollow.  For this week's challenge, all the former designers were invited back for a reunion challenge, the theme of which is 'We are Family'.  Here is my interpretation of the theme.  My mind immediately went to that warm and loving family holiday Thanksgiving and since autumn is our upcoming season here in the States, I grabbed this chance to make my first fall themed card.

I started by creating my main background panel by sponging with distress inks - Rusty Hinge, Scattered Straw and Dried Marigold, then stamped with with a script stamp and also with the maple leave from the old SU Botanicals set in Coffee archival ink.  The maple leaves were clear embossed as the archival ink works perfectly as an embossing ink.  I love the way the embossed leaves look.  I layered that panel over a brown panel that had been embossed with the Damask texture face and had white craft ink applied direct to paper on the high spots.

The tag is a rusty metal tag from my shop.  I tried running it through a Vintaj metal embossing folder but the metal was too thick, although it did leave a bit of a pattern around the edges which I reliefed with the Vintaj reliefing block.  It was stamped in white craft ink with an SU sentiment stamp.  A tutorial for my crinoline chrysanthemum can ben found here.  And last but not least, I took a double acorn shell and blued two pearls into it.  Unfortunately it doesn't sow well, but it is a cool embellishment that I learned from Shelly Hickox last fall - check them out here.

Office Supplies With a Twist!

Happy Saturday to you.  Saturday is always the day for Our Creative Corner and this week another of our new teamies is hosting, Kim Price, and she is challenging us to use OFFICE SUPPLIES  on our project along with a twist - USE RED.  Here is my take on the challenge - sort of a mish mash of real office supplies, faux office supplies and cool Artistic Outpost vintage images.  To start with, the real things are a piece of a steno pad and staples.  Faux are the Tiny Attacher staples (upper left), typewriter key "L" (for lunch), mini paper clip and the red label are all from Tim Holtz.  I made the faux typewriter ribbon with rayon seam binding and copic markers.  And the Artistic Outpost images are all from the Secretary Pool or Ephemera Backgrounds plates.  The "Past Due" was printed on my home printer onto a Tim Holtz Vial label.  The straight doily was colored with Barn Door Distress Stain - a quick and easy few swipes and BINGO it was red!  The background was stamped with images from Artistic Outpost and all the stamping was done with Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink then sponged with lots of Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

I also made this card to fit the sketch at Mojo Monday this week, which hopefully you can tell that I flipped it to the side..
