Another Day, Another Tag - Tim's Tag #5

I'm back this morning to share the tag I made inspired by yesterday's Tim Tag #5.  I didn't think this one was going to make it.  Had some problems with the alcohol ink technique Tim showed us yesterday, but I persevered and actually I like the result.  I do love using the alcohol inks and had actually tried this technique one time before, but without much luck.  I learned a few things working on this one.  I could re-do it and it would come out much better, but I'm too thrifty to throw this one away.  Two mistakes I made:  1) I used a stamp that was too thin/too detailed - best to use something bold. And 2) Alcohol mixatives like the gold mixative I used here, don't rub off as a reaction to the archival ink.  The only red alcohol ink I had was Cranberry.  Tim mixed several shades of red so I thought I would jazz it up a bit by mixing in some gold mixative.  It worked rather well and created a very pretty effect.  But when I stamped over it with the Jet Black archival ink, the gold didn't rub off very well.  That created a somewhat blotchy background and you can't see the stamps clearly.  Lessons:  use a bold stamp and leave out the mixatives.

I used the new Festive Greenery die to cut the white corrugated cardboard for my wreath  I sponged the edges very lightly with Vintage Photo DI and added holly berries with red stickles.  I couldn't leave the bottom blank like Tim did so I used more holly leaves and the flourish from the Festive Greenery die.  I added a bit of chunky glitter and the bird from Caged Bird die that was cut from chipboard covered with tissue tape.

That's it for #5 - roll on #6!  Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Am loving your red and cream tags, and the bird in the wreath!
I also had a problem with this technique, but persevered. At first I let the alcohol ink dry for about 10 minutes before stamping with the archival ink. It would not rub off. I then did another tag and hardly waited for the alcohol to dry, then stamped with archival. It worked beautifully - just like Tim showed.
Hopefully, I'll put together my tag tonight

Oh my Linda. I've been so busy working, etc., that I've really neglected my Google Reader. I've truly been enjoying scrolling thru your recent posts and seeing all the exquisite inspiration. I daresay, I like your tags better than Tim's. shhhh....

Hi Linda! I just love the way you do things. It is such fun each day to see what you come up with. I really like your creative style. I really wanted to participate in your tag challenge but I could not squeeze out the time. I'm still going to make tags inspired by your beautiful tags, but I am sorry that I did not join in. Your Tim tag #5 is very pretty. You did a nice job, as usual!!

Love the bird in your wreath, what a great idea! And speaking of great ideas, I am going to pull that white corrugated paper I bought from your etsy and use it this week. Never should've put that away without it seeing some diecutting first!
