Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #5

Welcome back to Week #5 of the my 12 Tags of Christmas challenge.  Thanks so much for stopping by today.  If you have already started to play along, thank you!  And if you haven't, you can check out all my challenge details/rules with the week #1 post here.  The links to all the weeks are on my sidebar. I hope you will decided to join in the challenge.

Stuck in sepia...that's how I feel this week.  I promise...next week I'll try to move to more traditional Christmas colors and give you a break from all this monochromatic stuff I've been so attracted to lately. This week, I started with a jumbo manila tag and sponged it with Vintage Photo.  Then in Coffee archival, I stamped the poinsettia stamp from Mini Holidays 5.   I also added just a hint of vintage style script using a ledger stamp from Artistic Outpost, also stamped in Coffee archival.   Santa was stamped on white card stock in Coffee archival and sponged with Vintage Photo.  To frame up Santa, I cut some corrugated cardboard with the Baroque M&S die and cut a circle in it with a Sized Circles M&S die.
I broke open two new distress glitters - Vintage Photo and Clear Rock Candy and glittered my die cut embellishments - the holly leaves cut with the Festive Greenery die and the garland cut with the Holly, Beaded and Snowflake Garland decorative strip die.  I was quite surprised with the difference in consistency of the Vintage Photo glitter and the Clear Rock Candy glitter.  The Rock Candy glitter is very fine whereas the Vintage Photo is more granular and chunky.  The bows have the Rock Candy glitter on them.  I fell in love with the Vintage Photo distress glitter as soon as I opened it.

I used the Tattered Poinsettia die to cut crinoline to make my poinsettia, dyed it with Vintage Photo distress ink and gave it a sprintz of Biscotti Perfect Pearls mist.  The Venise lace started out white and I dyed it to give it a deep ivory vintage look.

That's it for this week.  Thanks again for stopping by!

Hello, Punkin!

Hello!  Welcome to our monthly Artistic Outpost blog hop.  This month the theme is Designer's Choice and my choice is Halloween.  Actually, I'm having this card do double duty as we are kicking off a Halloween theme over at Frilly and Funkie for this fortnight's challenge.

I hope you will join us on the hop.  Here is our line up:

Gerrie * Lisa * Suzanne * Tracy * Alison * Terry * Kate

I used three different Artistic Outpost sets for this card.  The sweet little witch is from Vintage Halloween as is the Hello, punkin! greeting, the Happy Halloween is from the Haunted Halloween set and the poison label is from Apothecary.

Okay, so how did I make this little gem?  First I started looking for black and white harlequin paper, couldn't find any in the stash so downloaded a pattern from the internet and printed it out.  Then I sponged it with Library Green archival ink and stamped the sentiments in the same ink. The banners were hand cut and sponged with Vintage Photo DI.   I used the Mini  Baroque M&S die to cut that panel.  The little witch was stamped with Jet Black archival, trimmed out and colored with SU pastels.  A piece of white card stock was cut with the Cameo Frame die and stenciled with Jet Black archival and Wendy Vecchi's Yipes Stripes stencil.  It's hard to see, but the black panel has diamonds embossed on it using an old SU texture fade.  The flowers were cut with the Tattered Flowers decorative strip die from white CS and colored with Dusty Concord distress stain.  The leaves were cut from an old Sizzix die.  Once assembled, I misted the flowers and leaves with Perfect Pearl Perfect Pearl mist.

The piece wasn't too spooky for a Halloween piece so I added a piece of black "spooky cloth" that I picked up a few years ago at the Dollar Store.

And that's it for the details on this one.  I hope you will hop around and leave some love on the other designers' blogs.  And please do stop by Frilly and Funkie to see the Halloween makes over there!

Totally Spooky!

Hi there, I'm back again...this time with a spooky tag I made for Our creative Corner. Our host for this month is Julia and her challenge to us is to make a tag with a Halloween theme and texture. I really enjoyed the theme for this challenge.  I just love vintage Halloween items.

I took the texture part really seriously. Here are a few pictures of the piece as I made it.
I grabbed one of the jumbo manila tags I sell in the boutique and stamped the script stamp from Apothecary in Jet Black archival ink and clear embossed it.  I like doing black embossing that way because I don't have to deal with stray flecks of black EP where I don't want them.  Next I put Black Soot, Brushed Pewter and Seedless Grapes distress paints on my craft sheet, spritzed on a bit of water and dragged the tag through until it was covered.  I'm not sure where the greeny-gold came from by apparently from the blending of those colors.
The black embossed script sort of got lost with all the paint on it so I added more script in silver embossing.
Wanting still more texture, I added diamonds with a Wendy Vecchi stencil and her silver embossing paste.  I had a problem with the paste oozing out around the stencil opening and I don't know why.  I thought I was holding the stencil very tight against the tag but it still messed up.  At that point I was pretty annoyed because I was really pleased with how the tag was developing so for.  So I decided just to smear it more and took a credit card and dragged it downward and smeared it all.  (I actually ended up liking that look better than the diamonds)
The skull was stamped with Jet Black archival and coated with Clear Rock Candy crackle paint and I broke out my new Tim Holtz Distress Glitter in Seedless Preserves and Black Soot.  Unfortunately, the black glittered spider doesn't show up very well in this photo.  The backing for the skull is the new foil cardstock from Ranger, run through the spider web texture fade and painted with black acrylic paint dabber which was then rubbed off for a tarnished effect.

I dyed some white eyelash yarn with Seedless Grapes distress stain (thanks to Tracie for the inspiration to use the yarn).  I am really pleased with this piece and will also be entering it into Tim Holtz's October tag challenge.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Be sure to head over to Our Creative Corner to see the wonderful samples there!
