Bursting With Color

Hi everyone,  I wanted to share a fun piece I made recently for the Friday Focus column I did last Friday over on Frilly and Funkie on the Ken Oliver Color Bursts.  If you haven't seen it, you can check it out here.  I had just a blast playing with the new Color Bursts, trying out different techniques with them.  And BTW, they are on sale at 15% our already low price, through May 7th, at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

This was one of my color experiments where I puffed a small amount of the Alizarin Red and also the Pthalo Green on a piece of watercolor paper and then gave it a light misting with water.  I dried it with my heat tool before it got too diluted.  Then I stamped one of the images from Flower Garden in Jet Black archival ink.

I had just been on Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities 3 blog and saw that the challenge was using an embossing diffuser.  I thought the pattern on this piece was ready-made for using a diffuser so I did.  Once the embossing was done, I sponged over the entire piece with Vintage Photo distress ink and then I couldn't help by take my finger and rub Inka Gold Old Silver over all the high points of the embossing.  Then I edged it with more Old Silver.  I needed something to frame or mount it and decided on a piece of corrugated cardboard.  To give it a more finished appearance, I edged the cardboard with Vintage Photo DI and then rubbed Inka Gold Old Silver over the edges and also over the ridges.

The finishing touch was the 'beautiful' handwritten die cut from Tim Holtz's new Handwritten Love Thinlits set.  It also got some Vintage Photo DI as well as Inka Gold Old Silver on it.    Love the colors on this piece and the way the Ink Gold shines on the embossing.  I'm going to enter this into Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiousities challenge.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

The following products were used to make the project above.  They are available at my online
store The Funkie Junkie Boutique where Tim Holtz and Rnager products are always 20% below MSRP.
