A Bit of Repurposed Packaging

Greetings friends and followers, welcome to all my new followers and thanks so much to everyone for stopping by today.  I had a little playtime today with the theme from Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities II, #8.  This week we are challenged to dive into page 62 of the Compendium and create something with repurposed packaging.  Well, that's another thing that I LOVE doing - especially with the acrylic packaging that Tim's dies come in.  I have a whole box full of the empties that I have saved just to use on projects.  And I especially love to emboss them and use alcohol inks on them!

This project started out with one of the jumbo 8x4" tags that I sell in my store and sponged with Broken China and Mustard Seed.  Then I applied the butterfly stencils that I had cut with Idea-ology Mask Sheets a couple of weeks ago and lightly sponged the tag with Vintage Photo DI.  Next it was spritzed  with Perfect Pearls Cappuccino, a new color for me which looks great on this color background.  The Cappuccino is sort of a coppery shimmer, very nice!  After that I stamped with the French postmark stamp from TH's Mini Classics in both Coffee Archival Ink and Vintage Photo DI and added a few word stamps from Artistic Outpost's Lovely Day set stamped in Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink.

Using the new Pocket Envelope die, I cut acrylic packaging and ran the two flaps through the Damask Texture Fade and applied Pool and Ginger alcohol inks using the alcohol ink applicator.  The ATC die cuts an ATC size card that fits perfectly into the Pocket Envelope.  I stamped it with a sentiment from Artistic Outpost's new Kudzu Kafe set in Jet Black and also stamped a couple of images from TH's Mini Classics in Vintage Photo DI, then sponged the edges with Broken China.  I held the envelope closed with a distressed clothes pin from my boutique rather than the fastenings that you can cut with the die.
The tiny butterflies were cut with a Stampin' Up! Sizzlet die/embosser.  It didn't cut through, more like scored the acrylic and I had to cut it out with scissors, but that worked fine.  The flowers were cut with the Tattered Flowers Decorative Strip die, sponged with Mustard Seed, sprayed and mushed around in the Perfect Pearls Cappuccino.

That's it for this challenge.  I loved working with these colors, not my usual but fun to step out of my regular box.  Thanks again for stopping by.  Hope your week is off to a great start!

The acrylic butterflies look like stained glass...that's beautiful, the shimmer and opaque appearance they have. It might be out of your normal box here, but I love the new box you stepped into!

More wondrous work - so clever! I have a question. Can anyone help me work out how to use the T.H. long vintage lace die which I purchased from Linda's store? I can get one of the strips out OK, but the others just will not be parted from their tiny cut out bits, tried shimming, card, paper, nothing seems to work. Tried Youtube, no ideas there. Any suggestions appreciated - thanks heaps! Sue xx

Hi Sue,

Please email me at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com so we can explore the situation with your die. I'm wondering if it is defective as what I am understanding from your comment is that it won't cut all the way through even through thin paper.

Thanks for checking into this situation.
