Canvas and Enamel

I had a little time to play today so I made a tag.  I have been wanting to play with canvas and ink sprays since I saw Tammy Robert's StepXStep last week on the Frilly and Funkie blog.  A friend is in the hospital so I thought I would make a tag instead of a card and took this opportunity to satisfy my itch to get the canvas and spray out.

I used an old SU set - Garden Silhouettes and stamped it with Espresso Acrylic Paint Dabber onto a piece of canvas cut with the Tag and Bookplates die.  I filled a mini mister half full of water and added 4 drops of Tattered Rose reinker plus a couple of sprays of Biscotti Perfect Pearls.  I sprayed the Perfect Pearls right into the mini mister, shook it all together and sprayed the canvas.

I had some parchment paper out while doing Terry's Friday Focus with the shrink plastic and decided it was too much fun to throw away.  So I crumpled it all up, smoothed it out and coated it with Vintage Photo Distress Stain.  Then using an alcohol ink applicator, meadow alcohol ink and gold mixative, I inked the parchment paper, very similar to the way I did the kraft glassine last week.

Oooh, I loved the way it came out.  Next, it was glued it to a piece of chipboard and when the glue was dry, die cut with the M&S Mini Flourish die.  Then I coated it with Versamark and applied UTEE plus the heat gun and came out with this wonderful grungy enameled flourish.  I made the flowers earlier in the week - white CS was cut with the new Tattered Flowers decorative strip die, Tattered Rose Distress Stain was applied, then Biscotti Perfect Pearls mist, dried with the heat tool and then dipped into UTEE that was heated up in my Melting Pot to create these enameled flowers.

The Praying For You sentiment is from another old SU set - So Many Sayings, stamped on white CS, cut with the Tattered Banners Decorative Strip die, sponged and spritzed with Vintage Photo distress ink and then coated with Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint.  I topped it off with a snippet of faux suede celery green ribbon, a piece of twine and some coffee dyed Venise lace.   I also cut a second tag from chipboard and glued the canvas one over top of it for stability.

There you have it - just a little extra post this week because I could :)  Thanks so much for stopping by and for your generous and encouraging comments!  Wishing you a wonderful week!

Butterfly Love

Hi there, I hope your weekend is off to a great start.  Thanks for starting it with my Saturday post for Our Creative Corner.  Again this week, Irena Kowalczyk aka Rudlis from “Love, life and crafts” is our host.  She has a sweet challenge for us this week - butterflies.  Butterflies make me happy; they make me SMILE, dancing crazily in the sunshine in such a seemingly carefree way.  I actually had my butterfly card finished and waiting in the wings for this challenge.  I made it a few weeks back with the wonderful Artistic Outpost March release - Flower Market.  Oooh, that set has so many wonderful images in it.  You already know that the little sweetheart with the butterfly net has become a big favorite of mine.  Now, how about those poppies and the wonderful vintage French style Marche aux Fleurs stamp?  Wonderful, and I used them all for this card.  Once a designer paper addict, I am slowly becoming comfortable with stamping the backgrounds for my cards.  I was taking the Creative Chemistry 101 class the week I made this and decided just to play.  So I stamped all the stamps in Ranger Jet Black Archival ink and sponged it with Broken China and a bit of Scattered Straw, then edged it in Vintage Photo.  A bit of spritz and flick, which I can't seem to master, and my background was finished.

Next I cut a black panel and a chipboard panel with the Vintage Cabinet card die, which by the way is back in the shop here.  I inked up the Damask texture fade with an Encore Ultimate Metallic Gold pad and ran my black cabinet card panel through it.  What a cool texture that created!  An opening was cut in the cabinet card panel with the large ticket Mover and Shaper die and the Marche aux Fleurs panel was affixed behind it.  Then that entire layer was affixed onto the chipboard cabinet card die cut.  All of my butterflies were stamped on white CS, sponged with Broken China and Scattered Straw ink and fussy cut.    I just felt that it somehow needed more gold so I added the two bright brass pieces of filigree metals.  Oh, and I sprayed the background and the Marche aux Fleurs panel with Biscotti Perfect Pearls before I assembled the entire piece.  I'm sort of disappointed about how this card shows up in the photos because it is really pretty IRL.

I wanted to show how I cut the window in the Vintage Cabinet Card die cut.  I layer two Movers and Shapers together, in this case the Vintage Cabinet Card Die and the Ticket Movers & Shapers Die.  I usually run a scrap piece of paper through first just to make sure the smaller die is centered perfectly and the margins are equal on each side.  I don't know if all the M&S dies work this way.  I have noticed some fit together and some don't.  But when they do, it works so perfectly to cut windows in your larger die cuts!  Both of these dies, by the way, are available in The Funkie Junkie Boutique at great prices.
That's it for my Our Creative Corner piece this week.  I hope you will stop by the OCC blog and maybe even hop through the DT's blogs and leave them some love.  Lots of beautiful butterfly art to see this week!

Paris Flower Exposition

Good morning and welcome to the April Artistic Outpost blog hop.  We are using the Paris Exposition stamp set this month - one of my favorites!  I decided on sort of a black and white theme for this piece, sort of because it's really not a pure white.  I created a finely textured background to stamp on by taking a piece of Very Vanilla CS and painting it with a coarse brush and Claudine Hellmuth's Gesso.  The gesso left a striped texture when dry and I stamped over it using Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink.  All edges were sponged lightly with Vintage Photo DI.

It's a bit hard to see in the photo, but I did the same gesso painting on a smaller piece of Very Vanilla paper and then stamped it with "Exposition" text stamp in the same ink and then ran it through an SU sizzlit butterfly embossing/die.  The LeBallon stamp was stamped on a ticket cut with the Tim Holtz M&S Ticket die and the black CS fleur de lis were cut with a Spellbinder's die.  The flowers were cut with the new Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers decorative Strip die, colored with Tattered Rose distress stain and spritzed with Perfect Pearls Biscotti spray.

There you have it - another quick and easy card from me - but I really like the colors and the way it turned out. It looks nicer IRL where you can see the texture from the gesso.

Here's the blog hop roll, in case you are just jumping in or have become lost:

Have fun visiting all these wonderful and inspiring artists!  Thanks for stopping by!

UPDATE:  A reader asked about the fleur de lis, yes it is a a Spellbinder's die.

Upcycled Starbuck's Bottle

Hello and welcome!  I'm so happy you stopped by today.  I will have two posts and two samples to share this morning.  First, a new challenge from Frilly and Funkie and then a monthly blog hop for Artistic Outpost.    Anita Houston is our hostess this fortnight and she wants us to create a project with at least two items that are repurposed or recycled.  For my project, I used a Starbuck's bottle to create a pretty, vintage style bottle.  I also repurposed some gorgeous vintage lace given to me as a RAK by my friend Marcy Kaminski.  I've been saving that precious lace for just the right project.
I used lots of yummy vintage style embellies on this project, starting with Tim Holtz Terminology Tissue Wrap that I wrapped around the main body as a base.  That was followed by two vintage images that I printed and cut out.  I painted the brown cap with gesso and then scraped a little off so it looks worn and then glued the lace around the top edge using Claudine Hellmuth's Multi Medium Matte.  Using some bronze tone chain from my jewelry making supplies, I strung two chains around the neck.
The first one holds a couple of baubles I made from crystal beads and bead caps, plus I strung a couple of charms from one of the charm sets sold at the Funkie Junkie boutique.  On the other chain, I strung a key hole from the Idea-ology Locket Keys set.  It was originally silver but that didn't match so I altered it with a bit of Expresso alcohol ink mixed with gold mixitive. Love the way it looks now!  I used a Trinket Pin to hold a scrap of hand dyed Venise lace and a Wire Pin to hold a gold glass glittered heart.
Around the top I made use of the scrap of Venise lace I used for the dying/painting tutorial I did last week (click here if you didn't already catch it over at Frilly and Funkie).  I used two large filigree metal corner pieces to embellish the sides.  They bend easily and I formed them to the curve of the glass and glued on with Multi Medium Matte.  I held them in place with a rubber band until fully dry.  And lastly, I added a couple of hand dyed rosebuds and some flowers that I made using the Tattered Flowers Decorative Strip die.  They were cut from white CS, colored with Tattered Rose Distress Stain and given a bit of glimmer with Perfect Pearls Biscotti mist - love that stuff!

That about wraps it up for the Frilly and Funkie challenge.  Do't forget our Friday Focus was Venise lace and appliques and they are still 15% off through midnight ET on Thursday.  Hope to have you playing along with us this fortnight with your repurposed/recycled project!
