Faux Hammered Metal Noel

Hello again!  I'm back today with a simple tag that I made for the Funkie week of the Vintage Holiday Project over at Filly and Funkie.  I actually had something completely different in mind for this challenge, but the Ranger order I was waiting on didn't come in Monday night as scheduled, so I had to make a quick adjustment.  I've been very taken with Shelly Hickox's 12 Days of Christmas Ornaments and some of the faux finishes she has created.  This one was inspired by her hammered bronze finish.  Mine is more gold than bronze, but I followed her directions for her Day #8 ornament found here and this is how mine came out.  The only thing I did different was to use Tarnished Brass distress spray stain and I didn't cover the second black coat as thoroughly as Shelly did.  I really liked how the black showed through the gold top coat.  I had made it as sort of a whim, just to see how it would work out.

I also already had the base of the tag partially completed and laying on my craft desk when I went looking for something quick to make.  I don't remember where I saw it, but someone had a tag that they had sprayed with Antique Linen and then Vintage Photo distress spray stain and then when that was dry, they sprayed on Tarnished Brass through a stencil. I used Antique Linen and Walnut Stain sprays on mine, then I laid the Festive stencil over my tag and sprayed with Tarnished Brass.  But when I pulled the stencil up, I was disappointed because not much of the holly pattern showed up.  I set it aside a few days ago thinking I may find a use for it down the road.  Fast forward to my delayed project that I had planned for this challenge...I already had an accent piece and I had a tag background that might match up.  BINGO!  I did some stamping on the tag, added some stenciled stars, also with Tarnished Brass distress spray stain, but this time, I dabbed it on with a makeup spoke.  I used Jet Black archival ink for my stamping.  I really like the way it came out where I stamped over the Tarnished Brass stain.  You can almost make out the holly leaves.
I added some mirrored stars that I painted with Tarnished Brass spray stain too.  And that's it.  It would have been super fast but I did spend over an hour on creating the Noel embellishment.    That's it for this week, actually for the year.  This challenge is running through December 16th and then  Frilly and Funkie will kick off the new year with our next challenge beginning December 31st.  Please do stop by Frilly and Funkie to take a look at the Vintage Holiday cards the design team has for your inspiration.
