Sunset Saloon

Wow, we're half way through another week and half way through our Frilly and Funkie Kraft and Twine challenge.  The Funkies are back today to share with us their interpretation of that theme.  Hope you will stop by the blog to see their takes on kraft and twine.  Here is mine.  My kraft is Tim Holtz's kraft glassine.  The corrugated cardboard is just background staging for this piece.  I actually made this last week for Linda Ledbetter's brushless watercolor challenge, but when it was all finished I realized it would be perfect for week two of this challenge.  Using a 8x4" manila tag, I stamped the background with TH's Ultimate Grunge set using the colors Faded Jeans and Mustard Seed and then stamped the WILD WEST stamp in Brushed Corduroy.  Then the entire base of the tag was sponged with Rusty Hinge.

For my metal, I used regular kitchen aluminum foil and adhered it to white CS with Glue n' Seal. Why?  Because I like the way the aluminum foil takes the dripped alcohol ink better than the metal foil tape.   When the glue had dried, I die cut it with the Harlequin Border decorative strip die and then embossed with an ancient Cuttlebug Paisley die (always like it for western themes).  I die cut the letters with the Vintage Marketplace decorative strip die and likewise embossed them.  Then I dripped Ginger alcohol ink over all the metal, drip by drip and let it dry like that, pooling in some areas for a darker stain.  The saloon was stamped in Ranger Jet Black archival ink on the kraft glassine.  Be sure to heat dry your ink when you stamp on the glassine.  My sign was cut from corrugated cardboard with the Styled Labels die and then I embossed it with the Enamelware embossing powder - love the way it looks with enamelware type speckles!

I altered the metal on the Word Band with a bit of Ginger alcohol ink and gold mixative on a felt applicator.  It was silver tone but I didn't like the way that looked against the rusty browns.  So them's the deets, folks.  Let me know if you have any questions.  And thank you so much for all the lovely comments!

Linda, Beautiful Art Tag, I love the rich color and all that wonderful texture. I commented on this one because it is your newest piece, but I probably spend a couple of hours looking through and reading your blog today and all your work has an absolute wow factor. It was a pleasure to visit your blog and am leaving very inspired.

Linda...your tag is awesome! I love your rich, deep colors you've incorporated on this wonderfully "wild west" tag. I don't even have that set of stamps but you've really made them look amazing! I love your harlequin-ish textured border that you've added over your stamped image. That looks so cool! Your letters look amazing, too! Well done!! Thanks for sharing your always inspiring art with us at Simon Says Stamp and Show. <3 Candy
