Hello and happy Wednesday! I'm back again helping to kick off another two-week Frilly and Funkie challenge. Sue Carrington is our hostess this fortnight and she wants us to make something with lots of texture and we must include material (fabric) in our project. Well, I'm all about texture and I adore using material in my crafting so this challenge was a real delight for me - as you can see I really dove in with the material. I used three different kinds - canvas type ticking, burlap and sticky backed canvas. Let's get down to the details.
I was in the mood for blue and was delighted when I found this wonderful ticking fabric at my local sewing center. It set the color palette for this piece. I had fun making my own kraft resist background paper using plain kraft paper that I clear embossed with stamps from the TH clear stamp set Flights of Fancy. Before I clear embossed the images, I stamped script and post mark stamps in Ranger Jet Black Archival ink. Then I did a little marbled stains with Picket Fence and Faded Jeans distress stains - love the way they look over the kraft CS. The burlap and ticking hearts were both die cut with Spellbinders hearts dies. I added a white doily but of course I couldn't leave it white so I spritzed it with Vintage Photo Distress reinker and water in a mini mister, the sponged it a bit more color on with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I had one of the tissue wrap flowers left over from my last make and used it along with two ticking flowers cut with the Tattered Florals M&S dies. I found this cool rusted washer when I was out walking last week and of course it went into my pocket. It and a pale blue button made a perfect center for my shabby flower.
I created my sentiment "You're the Genuine Article" on my computer and printed it on sticky backed canvas. I was a bit apprehensive about sending the sticky backed canvas through the printer. First I stained it very lightly with Faded Jeans Distress Stain and dried it with my heat tool. Then I peeled off the backing and adhered it to a sheet of card stock which I put through my printer and printed the sentiment on it. I used the mini ticket Movers and Shapers die to cut the ticket shape. It was really difficult to line the die up with the sentiment and get it centered and straight. It's just a tad crooked, but I went with it anyway.
This was a blast to make - I LOVED working with the material. I hope you will decide to play along with us in this challenge. How about checking out the Frilly and Funkie blog to see what the other designers have created for your inspiration. And it would be great if you could visit their blogs and leave them a little love!
Thanks for stopping by! And many many thanks for all your lovely comments. I'm sorry I have been such a bad blogger and haven't gotten around to visit you all. The shop and some personal issues have been keeping me crazy busy, but please know how much I appreciate your visits and your comments!

Hello Linda,
This Challenge does sound like me as well having worked with material most of my life, I shall find this easy-peasy.
Your creation is just amazing as always, you appear to invariably have a design that suits your elements or is it the other way around? Whatever, you have interest and texture oozing from this piece of work, the cool Blue does sit so well with the Kraft, and the ticking makes a great flower.
I may have to enter this Challenge.
Smiles:)
Sue
