Happy weekend, friends! Thanks for kicking off your weekend with my Saturday post for Our Creative Corner. This week, Kristin Tierney is our host and we are celebrating her 10th wedding anniversary by creating something with either the number 10 or ten of the same thing on it. I decided to make a very romantic tag. I covered both bases here, using the number 10 and, although the flower has covered the 10th number, there are 10 numbers on this Tim Holtz stamp. I also made this to fit Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities II, Challenge #10 challenge which this time is to make a tissue wrap flower. And how cool is it that my Funkie Junkie Boutique is the sponsor for Challenge #10.
I made my tissue wrap flower a little differently than on page 37 of the Compendium II, using the Tattered Florals and Mini Tattered Florals dies to cut my tissue wrap and tulle. If you haven't tried the tissue wrap, you should. It is awesome to use. It's probably two times as thick as regular tissue paper and has a bit of a waxy feel to it. It holds up nicely when wet rather than turning to mush. With the waxy feel, I wasn't sure if I could dye it, but it worked out perfectly. I didn't have any premade brown spray inks so I mixed water and Vintage Photo reinker in mini mister and sprayed the cut pieces.
In these two photos, you can see how when I misted it initially the dye mixture beaded up, but after waiting a few minutes, the tissue paper absorbed the ink spray. Then I sprayed a second coat using Cappuccino Perfect Pearls which gave it a splotchy, shiny copper look. After drying with my heat tool, I crumpled all the flower layers up into a ball and then VERY carefully unfurled them, stacked and glued them together. I absolutely love the way the tissue wrap looks when it's been dyed like this and it has nice body resulting in a fluffy dimensional flower.
The tag is a jumbo tag from my boutique and I used Sue's Multi Medium Matte stamping technique, sponging the tag with Weathered Wood, Tattered Florals, Victorian Velvet and edged with Vintage Photo and Walnut stain distress inks. The script from Wendy Vecchi's Live and Make Art set was stamped in Coffee archival ink and the number stamp was stamped in Vermillion archival ink.
The cupid is carrying the key to someone's heart and I created/printed the sentiment on my printer, the first heart says "I love you more today than yesterday" and the second heart says "but not as much as tomorrow" (and if you are old enough to remember that song by The Spiral Staircase, you are old like me - LOL). And I finally got my mitts on the Word Play die and couldn't resist using it to make the 10 also out of the dyed tissue tape covered chipboard.
This tag was so much fun to make. I really enjoyed the blend of colors and playing with the tissue wrap. Hope you like it too. Please stop over to Our Creative Corner for more inspiration from the talented design team - a great way to get your weekend started in a crafty way!
