Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #10

Hi everyone, I know I'm running late on getting Tag #10 published.  So sorry for the delay but life is definitely getting ahead of me right now. Between all the moving issues and details plus several significant family obligations, I feel like I am falling behind.  I've actually had this tag done for two weeks, but never got around to photographing it.  I've been anxious to share it.  I guess I like the instant gratification of making something and seeing it up on my blog right away.  I hate to have to set things aside when they are finished.

I started with one of my jumbo manila tags, as usual, and then embossed it with the Bricked texture fade.  Fired Brick DI was applied directly to the embossed sections.  All the edges were sponged with Vintage Photo DI.  The icicles are white card stock embossed with the icicles border from the Christmas Background and Borders texture fade set.  After embossing, I fussy cut the border out and applied Stickles Rock Candy Distress Glitter to it.  The 25 and holly leaves were cut from Kraft Core and the ivory felt flower was cut with the Distressed Pinecones die.  I cut two and wrapped one over the other to make it that large.  I glued my vintage image to chipboard and then die cut it with the Carved Ornaments die, adding a bit of burlap string and a button for embellishments.

Star Baby

Greetings! I'm here today with a card I made for the recent Picture Star release over at Artistic Outpost.   This set is jam-packed with awesome stamps.  This star-baby is absolutely adorable.  As soon as I saw this stamp, I envisioned him in yellow.  Isn't he just the cutest with his trench coat and beret.  The background was made with the marbled stains technique with Mustard Seed and Picket Fence distress inks.  I used the stars from the set to stamp the background and also dry embossed some kraft core card stock with a star pattern and then sanded it.  The Tim Holtz ATC die was perfect for cutting the panel for the baby, who was colored with copics.  The STAR and Baby You're A Star  sentiments as well as the film reels and chalk board are all stamps from the set and were stamped in jet black archival ink.  If you haven't seen this set, you really should check it out here.

Alcohol Inks and Foil...and Some Moving News

Good Saturday morning friends!  I'm back today with my project for this week's challenge over at Our Creative Corner and a little update on my upcoming move and temporary store closing.

This week, Sue Butler is again hosting our challenge and Sue is asking us to use foil and alcohol ink - how fun is that!  You know how I love using the metal foil tape - there are so many different ways to use it!  This time, I stuck it to heavy card stock, die cut and embossed it.  Then I took a paint brush and dipped it into a small pool of Stonewashed Alcohol Ink and carefully painted it onto the raised embossed snowflakes.  When dry, I went over it with Crackle Accents, but I guess it put it on too thick because it didn't crackle much.  It looks more like Glossy Accents.  I also die cut two snowflakes from acrylic packaging and then embossed them with the Snow Flurries Texture Fade and then painted them with the Stonewashed AI too.  

The blue background started as a piece of plain white CS that I sponged with Faded Jeans DI the silver embossed the evergreen stamp from TH's Mini Holidays 3 and the snowflakes stamp from TH's Mini Holidays, but I thought the background was too bland so I dotted a bit of Faded Jeans Distress Stain on my craft sheet, spritzed it with water and then laid my CS on top of it, giving it some blotchy color variations.  Next I distressed a strip of sheet music and then die cut it with the Mini Snowflakes Movers and Shapers.  This piece was then layered over a piece of white burlap that had in turn been layered over a piece of brown CS.  I liked the brown behind the white burlap - sort of made the snowflakes pop.  The snowflakes that were cut out of the music sheet became the base of the acrylic snowflakes.  Merry Christmas from Mini Holidays 3 was stamped in Gathered Twigs DI and given one coat of UTEE, then sponged heavily with Vintage Photo DI and trimmed out.  

Now an update on my move.  We finally decided on a house in Gainesville and made an offer.  That's the great news - we FINALLY agreed on a house - we both love it and are very excited about living there.  The bad news?  It's not available until January 10th and then we probably won't be able to get in for a week or 10 days after that because of a lot of work we want to do on it before moving in.  We have to be out of our Miami home on November 27th.  That means we will be "between homes" for 6-8 weeks.  Major bummer!!!  It's killing me because I will have to extend my temporary closing at The Funkie Junkie Boutique from the anticipated 2 weeks to around 8 weeks.  It will likely be the end of January before I reopen.  The 10% off sale continues through the closing date of November 23rd (Black Friday).  Some items are sold out now (good news that I won't have so much to pack and move) and I will be restocking heavily before I reopen.  I hope you will stop by The Funkie Junkie Boutique to check out the sale - 10% off my already discounted prices makes for some real bargains!

Chipboard and Metal

Hello and happy Wednesday.  I'm back today with the Frilly side of things at Frilly and Funkie.  The lovely and talented Marjie Kemper is our hostess this fortnight and her challenge to use is to use chipboard (snowflake) and metal (rusty bell) on our projects.  For my frilly piece, I Photoshopped two vintage images together for my focal piece and sponged the edges with Vintage Photo DI.  The layers were embossed with the Tim Holtz Snowflurries texture fade, the white one sponged with Vintage Photo again and the red one, which was embossed on kraft core paper, was sanded with my TH Sanding Grip. The bottom red layer was dry brushed with gesso.  I followed Mojo Monday sketch 267 and ran a piece of sanded kraft core cut with the Vintage Lace die across the top of my vintage image per the sketch.  A bit of rayon seam binding was dyed with red reinker and became the base for a rusty bell dry brushed with gesso and a tiny white Venise tribud that I handpainted red.  I layered a rosette and two snowflakes together and topped it with another red-dyed tribud as my finisher.

That's it.  I know it's super simple but I'm up to my ears in moving details plus keeping up with a 10% off sale at The Funkie Junkie so time is very short these days.  Here's the merged vintage image as a freebie if you want it.
