Hello and welcome back to the 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style!  It's great to have you back with me for week #7.   A huge welcome to our new players and thanks to everyone who has linked up a project.  I continue to be inspired by your fantastic entries to this challenge.  I'm always tickled to see how a spark of inspiration from my work becomes a fire of creativity for you!
This week I had some fun with embossing paste, stencils and distress sprays.  It all started with an ornament I saw somewhere on Pinterest.  I thought I can do that with my ornament die, stencil and glitter.  I had in mind to do Victorian pinks and burgundy.  I didn't end up with quite those colors, but I am still happy with the result.   I started by cutting the ornament out of white card stock and stenciling on Tim Holtz texture paste with the Gothic stencil.  I immediately sprinkled Antique Linen distress glitter onto the wet embossing paste.  The glitter stuck pretty well but as I handled the ornament a lot, moving it around and trying to get it right, some of the glitter started coming off.  I ended up taking a toothpick with Glossy Accents and carefully painting the Glossy Accents onto the raised areas that were bare of glitter and then sprinkling on more Antique Linen glitter.  In the end, you couldn't really tell where I had to add more glitter.  I edged the ornament with a bit of Vintage Photo.  The bow is seam binding that was spritzed with the new Tarnished Brass distress stain spray, crinkled tightly and dried with m heat tool.  Then I made one of my triple loop bows (tutorial) and glued it onto the ornament.
Then it was time to work on the tag.  I started with one of my favorite jumbo manila tags (from my shop) and stenciled on Tim Holtz texture paste with the Gothic stencil.  When the paste had dried and hardened, I went looking for Victorian Velvet distress stain spray - guess what - that color wasn't in the original 28 sprays.  But now it is available for pre-order and will be shipping in about 10 days.  So I tried Tattered Rose spray.  It was pretty, but wasn't enough color so I put some of the Victorian Velvet stain into a mini mister and sprayed it on my tag.  It looks great overlaid over the Tattered Rose.  Then I gave the entire tag a few shots of Tarnished Brass spray stain and dried it all with my heat tool.  When it was dry, I sponged over the high points and the edges with Vintage Photo.  That created such a gorgeous background!  I hate it when the photos just cannot convey how lovely the original piece is.
So now I had my ornament and my background but it needed something else.  Out came my old Tim Holtz holly die as well as an old Tim Holtz snowflake texture fade.  I cut the leaves from white CS and embossed them with the snowflake die.  Then I put a few drops of Tarnished Brass stain on my craft sheet and wet my finger with it, rubbing it lightly over the embossed snowflakes and the edges.  The three holly berries were also white CS, painted with Tarnished Brass distress stain and then covered with glossy accents (sorry there is a bubble in one that I didn't notice in time to pop).  I popped each "berry" up with a small pop dot for dimension.

Using one of the new Thinlits labels, I cut a small label, stamped it with an Artistic Outpost stamp and anchored it with one of the pearly acrylic snowflakes from my shop - I colored with an alcohol marker.  The top needed something too, especially since the jumbo tags I use are larger than the Tim Holtz stencils.  I had the piece of doily sitting on my desk already stained, left from an other project.  That worked perfectly, coupled with one of the pretty bronze filigree corners, also from my shop.  I dabbed on a bit of Tarnished Brass stain so it coordinated with the color palette.  I'm here to tell you that I am completely hooked on the Tarnished Brass spray stain!  If you only buy a couple of the stains, I would recommend the metallics - they are wonderful!!

I can't wait to see what you all will make this week.  If you are new to the challenge, there is still plenty of time to join in the fun.  Check out the Week #1 post for all the challenge requirements and then go create!

Is it Wendy...

...or is it Memorex?  Okay, so I just gave my age away, oh well :)  Our challenge this time around at Frilly and Funkie, hosted by the delightful and talented Jenny Marples, is 'It's All About Wendy.'  The Frilly and Funkie team is celebrating the fact that our sponsor The Funkie Junkie Boutique has become one of the shops that Wendy links to from her blog when she uses a product.  Yay!!  How cool is that??? Anyway, we have all made projects in the Wendy Vecchi style, possibly using some of her products but putting our own spin on it.  (Check out Wendy's style here on her blog.) Well, I didn't really put a Funkie Junkie spin on it, rather I totally mimicked her style using all her products.  Boy, was that fun!  I used my favorite Wendy Vecchi stencils and broke out a new (for me) stamp - the reverse dots stamp (which I have officially fallen in love with so you will be seeing it frequently).  And best of all, it is available individually as a background stamp - on sale at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

I started with a piece of white CS and Wendy's Yipes Stripes stencil which I used to stencil on Vermillion.  Then I stenciled on embossing ink with the For the Holidays Stamp It Stencil It and embossed it with Wendy's new Fern Green embossing powder.  Then it was stamped with the coordinating stamp using white pigment ink.  The sentiment - Merry Christmas - was stamped with Vermillion and clear embossed.

The beautiful Vintage Lace background stamp was stamped in Vermillion and fussy cut out.  It was layered over a panel that I stamped in Fern Green using the Reverse Dots background stamp.  A border from the Industrious Stickers Borders set was covered with Vermillion ink by swiping the pad across it.  The 25 was cut from white CS with the Stacked Words:  Christmas decorative strip die.  It was inked with Fern Green and then stamped in Jet Black archival using a tiny print Wendy Vecchi stamp.  Then it was clear embossed.  I stenciled the Checkmate stencil using Fern Green archival and used it as a back panel.  I also used the tiny print stamp to stamp the card shell in Jet Black archival and then sponged it with Vintage Photo.  I stamped the Reverse Dots stamp using Vermillion ink on a scrap of white CS and then stamped the bow over it with white pigment ink and trimmed it out - loverthe way it looks - so very Wendy Vecchi!  I had a blast making this card using all my favorite Wendy Vecchi products.  I love how it came out pure Wendy with hardly a touch of Funkie Junkie thrown in :)  Please be sure to stop by Frilly and Funkie to check out the rest of the team's makes!

Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #6

Oh my, we are half way through the 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style.  Do you realize it's now only six weeks until Christmas.  Are you playing along?  Better get crackin'!  And it's terrific to see that a number of you are keeping up with the weekly postings!  If you are new to this challenge, it goes on until December 21s and you can play in any order at any time. You just have to have your holiday projects linked up by December 21st. You can find all the challenge requirements in this post and I hope you'll play along.

This week I went with vintage sepia tones for another monochromatic tag.  It wasn't planned to do a monochromatic color scheme two weeks in a row, it just happened.  I'm not big on planning out my projects.  I start with an idea and it just goes from there.  This is what resulted for week #6.  Starting with a jumbo tag from my shop, I stamped it with Potting Soil ink and the script stamp from Apothecary, then sponged it with Brushed Corduroy and Vintage Photo DIs.  Two On the Edge Distressed Doilies were cut and also aged with Brushed Corduroy and Vintage Photo.  A panel of white CS was embossed with a texture fade and also aged.  I misted the panel with Biscotti Perfect Pearls mist, distressed the edges and sewed it onto the tag.  A snowflake was cut with the new Layered Snowflake die and also embossed with the accompanying texture fade.  This piece was aged with Brushed Corduroy and Vintage Photo also.  Flower layers were cut with the Tattered Flowers decorative strip tie and holly leaves were cut with the Festive Greenery decorative strip die.  The sentiment was cut with the Stacked Words:  Christmas decorative strip die.  Tiny pearlized snowflakes from my boutique were added in a flourish pattern.

That's it for this week.  As always, I hope you can find something to inspire you and play along with me!  Thanks so much for stopping by and for any comments you care to leave!

Yuletide Greetings

Hello and welcome! Linda here with a Christmas card using the Midwinter set, which I dearly love. I started with Wendy Vecchi's Basically Bricks stencil and Tim Holtz's texture paste.  When it was dry, I colored it a bit with Brushed Corduroy and Walnut Stain distress inks.  The window was cut from chipboard and sprayed with Walnut Stain Distress Spray.   I stenciled on the woodgrain stencil from Tim Holtz.   The lovely midwinter scene is perfect for looking out a window at - so peaceful.   I stamped it with Potting Soil archival and created the snow with Glossy Accents and Clear Rock Candy distress glitter.

I used the new Holiday Greens die for cutting the evergreen. The pine ones and the sentiment were both stamped using the Midwinter set and Potting Soil ink. I used one of the new Tim Holtz Thinlits Label dies to cut the panel for the sentiment.  One lone pearly acrylic snowflake from my shop was used to embellish the card.  Now, in retrospect, I wish I had used some of the Rock Candy glitter on the pine needed to give them a little pop of sparkly snow.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you are having a wonderful fall weekend.
