Just Playing Around

I'm back today with my weekly DT make for Artistic Outpost.  For this week's project, I decided to play around with a grungy background.  I really liked the way the background came out, but not so much the overall tag.  That I am not thrilled with.  But I do love the Paperboy plate by Artistic Outpost.  The text stamp I used for the background is especially cool.

In fact, I liked the background so much that I took a picture of it before I decorated the tag.  Using one of the jumbo manila tags from the boutique, with the Tim Holtz Schoolhouse stencil, I stenciled numbers and letters in Potting Soil archival.  Then I stamped the text stamp in black.  Using white Wendy Vecchi embossing paste, I stenciled the full stencil over the entire tag.  Once that dried, I did Tim Holtz's marbled stains technique using Frayed Burlap and Picket Fence.
Here's what it looked like after doing all of that.  (Sorry for the way the overhead Ott light is reflected on the craft sheet).  I used the Tim Holtz ticket die to cut the tickets for the focal image and the sentiment, both of which were stamped in Jet Black archival.  I finished it off with some bits and pieces from my stash, including the half clock face.  Unfortunately, I can't quite remember how I made that but seem to remember Tarnished Brass distress stain and UTEE.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog today.  I sincerely appreciate any comments you care to leave!

New Year's Resolutions

Hello friends, followers and visitors!  I have a tag to share that I made for my Frilly week make over at Frilly and Funkie.  I'm hosting this challenge and I thought it would be fun to share our New Year's resolutions.  It's time again for new beginnings and New Year's Resolutions. I know you got 'em. Even though you might not have written them down, told your significant other or shared them with your BFF, there are still some positive aspirations lurking in the back of your brain. Now it's time to share them. Over at Frilly and Funkie, we want to see a card, tag or project depicting a New Year's resolution.

Looking at my tag, you may think my New Year's resolution is to use more glitter, you are wrong.  I did coat this baby lavishly with Rock Candy Distress Glitter but that's not what the resolution is.  I struggle with having the time to visit everyone's blog and leave comments, which really bothers me, but with a long list of tasks for the shop every day, blogging falls to the bottom of the list.  So this year, I'm determined to spend more time visiting.  Hence my tag's sentiment...Hello Friend.

I'm still in a winter crafting mode.  I have been itching to use this Tree Line die to create a little forest and wanted to work it in before I move on to a new season.  I started with a jumbo manila tag and sponged it with Cobalt archival ink.  I used archival because I didn't want the embossing paste to absorb the ink and change color.  I was going for a snowy background look.  While the embossing paste was still wet, i sprinkled on the glitter.  I love how Wendy Vecchi's white embossing paste dries so quickly.  The metallic pastes are slower to dry but the white dries in about 20 minutes.  I sponged the back treelike with Iced Spruce and the front treelike with Pine Needles.  The poinsettias were cut using the Mini Poinsettias M&S dies for the smallest one and also the smallest poinsettia on the Tattered Poinsettia die.  I stamped them in Potting Soil archival with the text stamp from Wendy Vecchi's Live and Make Art set.  I keep that stamp on my desk all the time and use it frequently for backgrounds.  I dragged out my old Martha Stewart micro beads to create silver centers for the poinsettias.
A little late for this Christmas, I just found a lot of cute Christmas/winter charms and stocked up the store with them.  The tiny silver bells really do jingle and these cute little silver tone safety pins are perfect for hanging the charms on a bow.  I'm including a dozen of the safety pins with each set of charms.

I hope you will decide to play along with Frilly and Funkie for this challenge.  Stop by and see the wonderful projects the Frilly team has shared.

Wishing You a Happy, Healthy and Crafty New Year!!!

Hello, I'm back today to wish you a Happy New Year!   Today is a new challenge from Our Creative Corner too.  This month, our hostess is Claudia and her challenge is "No More Shopping Sins".  She wants us to rip open something that has been sitting unused and hoarded and put it to work on our project.  Well, I decided I must rip open everything and use it one time before it finds it's way into my  hoard.  I thought and thought and riffled through things and just wasn't coming up with anything unopened.  But then I found a package of Prima die cut felt embellies that I had actually unearthed a couple of months ago and made a note that I wanted to use.  These things are probably 3-4 years old. And I matched them up with a black crystal flourish that I had been hoarding.  It was also unopened but I have used one before as I purchased several packets back in the day.
I did also use some highly hoarded Maja Design Sofiero paper on this tag.  I ripped two strips and glued them to both edges, leaving the midsection blank.  Using a Prima stencil, I applied White embossing paste to the tag.  Once the embossing paste had set up, I brushed the entire tag with watered down gesso.  When dry, I gave it a misting with Perfect Pearls Heirloom Gold, which was also used to mist the flowers and leaves.  I used one of the pretty floral filigree metal pieces from the boutique and dry brushed it with gesso.  The cheese cloth was dyed with Vintage Photo and then sprayed with Perfect Pearls Heirloom Gold to give it a little life and bling.  Very simple tag, but I love the way the background turned out.  I will definitely be doing this again!

That's it for my OCC make this month.  I hope you will check out the fantastic creations by the rest of the design team.
