It's All About the Die Cuts

Hello and welcome!  I'm so glad you have stopped by today to see my contribution to the design team's line up for the new challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.  It's the Frillies' week to post.  Nicole is our hostess this time and she wants us to showcase spring die cuts.  Well, of course, for me that means flowers - YAY!

For no rhyme nor reason, I got started with Cracked Pistachio and went completely monochromatic with it.  I loved the way the crisp white die cuts looked against the CP green.  A couple of months ago, we got some new Spellbinders fancy layers dies in the shop and I've been looking for an excuse to grab a pack for my own.  This set cuts four different edges plus two intricate inserts.  Instead of cutting just one edge, I decided to cut opposing edges.  They are really gorgeous.  They don't show great in the photo, but IRL they are really lovely.

All my CS started out white, the green was sprayed with Cracked Pistachio Distress Spray Stain. I also gave it all a couple of shots of Picket Fence Distress Spray Stain to, just to give it some variation.  The Picket Fence came out on blotches and blobs rather than in a mist, which I really liked.   I used Cracked Pistachio paint for one layer, but it didn't match exactly with the spray so i chucked it and created the same layer again with the spray.

For the center layer, I cut a vase shaped panel from white CS, then sprayed it with CP spray stain.  After dry it with my heat gun, I stamped the Wend Vecchi script stamp in Jet Black archival.  Then I applied embossing ink through the Tim Holtz Wildflower stencil and the embossed using white EP.

The butterfly was cut from vellum and embossed using the new Butterfly Duo Bigz die.  I flipped it over and colored in the recessed areas with a Cracked Pistachio marker.  I edged the butterfly just slightly with Vintage Photo DI to give the edges some definition and make it stand out a bit.

My flowers were also cut from white CS using the Tattered Flowers Garland decorative strip die, always my go to die for making flowers.  It cuts a lot at one time in all different sizes.  The smaller sizes of the flowers on the strip are perfect for card and tag making.  The sticks and ivy were cut from the Spring Greenery decorative strip die.  I colored white fatback pearls with a Cracked Pistacho marker for the flower centers.

Tiny Affirmations

Hello again, I'm back with Week #2 of my Put a Ribbon on It challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.  I hope you will play along with our challenge.  Just make a vintage style project with a ribbon and link up to our challenge.  It's open through April 7th.  You have a chance to be voted our Funkie Favorite, winning a badge for your blog and a guest designer spot on the challenge blog.  And there is also a random draw prize too - a $25 gift certificate to shop at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  

I have to admit my ribbon project this week isn't very clever.  I've been working long hours in the shop and my craft time has really dwindled along with my inspiration.  Not too original as everyone and their sister has used a brick wall stencil or stamp combined with a floral vine.  But even though it lacks originality, I did have fun playing with all the colors and inks and textures.  

I started this piece with a 5x7" piece of white CS and used the Tim Holtz Bubbles stencil to layer on white Ranger embossing paste.  We had just received a shipment of Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays in the shop and I grabbed a couple to play with.  I used Starburst sprays in Sea Mint Green and Wild Honeysuckle Coral, spraying portions of the card and embossing paste.  I did a little background stamping with Jet Black archival ink, using a Wendy Vecchi text stamp from Love to Make Art and a Tim Holtz brick stamp.  The gorgeous lady is Wendy's "Megan" stamp from A Passion for Art as is the  subtle sentiment "Perfect just the way you are".

The flowers were cut with the Tattered Flower Garland and the greenery with the Spring Greenery decorative strip dies.  The flowers were white CS sprayed with the Lindy's Wild Honeysuckle Coral and the paper for the greenery was a piece of card stock that I used as a backing when I was spraying other elements from another project - LOL!  It looked so nice with the green shimmer with just a few sprays of sepia.  And of course all the edges on both the flowers and greenery were inked with Vintage Photo.  I used Kaisercraft pearls in Copper - love the graduated sizes, perfect for different size handmade flowers!  I altered a copper filigree from my shop with black alcohol ink as an accent.  

My one little ribbon piece is some of the lovely new burlap ribbon I started carrying in the shop lately.   I cut three tiny tags, distressed them and added Remnant Rub ons (using Tim's awesome new Remnant Rub tool) from the Words pack.  They were secured with a tiny loop pin from my shop.

Put a Ribbon on Some Graphic 45

A warm welome to friends, followers and visitors!  I'm delighted you stopped by to see my weekly DT piece for Frilly and Funkie.  This fortnight I am hosting our challenge and I want you to Put a Ribbon on It!  I LOVE ribbon, who doesn't, right?  We have a lovely assortment of yummy new ribbons at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

You may be aware that we started carrying Graphic 45 paper collections at The Funkie Junkie Boutique this spring.  I hadn't had a chance to do any crafting with these fabulous products so I decided to break into the Home Sweet Home collection to match up with ribbon for this challenge.  I love the new Home Sweet Home collection with its wonderful assortment of vintage country style patterns and colors, images and rubber stamps.  I have seen some amazing work with Graphic 45 products on line.  I'm not sure I have the knack yet for the Graphic 45 style but I think with a little practice, I'm going to love it.
