Hello and welcome to my Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge Blog post. Sadly, this will be my last one with the team as I have stepped down. It was my decision, but it still makes me sad. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the team, but I had taken on too many teams and deadlines and something had to give.

This week the challenge is to make a card for a baby. I noticed that the entire team and one of the guest designers chose pink. I guess we all love those girly girl type of creations. Mine uses a darling image from Isabella's Sketchbook, DP from Raspberry Road Designs and gingham from Pink Petticoat. It's a digital bonanza! The image was colored with Copics, the edges sponged with Creamy Caramel and the sentiment computer generated. A Martha Stewart edge punch was used as well as the Swiss Dots embossing folder for the Cuttlebug. I feel like it's a little too washed out with all the pinks, but other than that I really like the way it looks.

Whoohoo!! Summer's here in all its glory and it's time to hit the beach! So this week at Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge Blog we are challenging you to make a beach inspired card. Can't wait to see all the wonderful entries that will be rolling in!

I used two Flourishes sets to make my DT card: Seaside Life and Beach Life. I really love both of these sets!! The shells were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black on Flourishes card stock and colored with Copics. They were trimmed out and coated with Crystal Effects. I also used the shells to stamp around the perimeter of the Soft Suede layer in Versamark and then clear embossed them for texture. The DP is from the K&Co. Sea Glass stack. I bought it a year ago and hardly used it. Now I've used it twice in the past couple of weeks - great DP!!

I layered the Soft Suede and the DP together, stitched around the edge and then cut a window with the Labels 1 Spellbinders die. Then a frame was cut by taping the die used to cut the window and the next larger size together, being very careful to make sure the gap was equi-distant all the way around. This configuration was used to cut a frame in the Soft Suede.

I used Dusty Durango for the outer shell and the inside window because I thought it mimicked the firey ocean sunset. I cut a piece larger than the window and embossed it with the Cuttlebug Moroccan Screen EF and layered the serene ocean scene over it. The beach sign was made with some Cosmo Cricket DP that looked like wood. I stamped the sentiment in Vintage Photo Distress Ink and mounted in on a toothpick (coated with Vintage Photo distress ink too).

So, what do you think? I told the other designers on the team that I couldn't decide if I liked it or if it was an over-the-top mess. But is was a lot of fun to make so I guess that redeems it no matter what anyone else thinks - right?

And wouldn't you know it. I was in Marshall's yesterday and they had a little bundle of shells all tied up in a pretty little net for $1.99. Of course, I snatched it up so I'm set for next time! Time for Tea

Hello and welcome! I'm so happy you stopped by. I have a card to share that I made for the Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge blog. Our challenge this time is to make a distressed card. Easy peasy for me, right? LOL - I seldom make anything BUT a distressed card! It seems I am in a pink and green groove this week (I didn't say rut because I really love the color combo). I thought I would combine this distressed DT card with two other challenges I am becoming especially fond of - The Shabby Tea Room (Polka Dot Tea) and City Crafter (recipe: one ribbon, two papers and three flowers). Please disregard the tiny die cut flowers. I pushed the bounds of the City Crafter challenge and am only considering the three large fabric flowers as actual flowers. The others are merely embellishments - LOL. Also, both challenges have fabulous prizes this week. The Shabby Tea Room has Thrift Shop October Afternoon DP and scrumptions ribbon donated by Sharon Johnson from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store. The City Crafter's prize is a $25 gift certificate from the Scrapbooking Cottage.

I have had this vintage image in my files for some time and have been wanting to find a reason to use it. It is from Clearly Vintage and is the cover of a 1914 Speigel catalog. I think she looks like she is ready to attend a tea. The layout was inspired by a village tea shop with vines along the sides.

Here are the details: Pretty in Pink CS and DP from SU, vines/flowers are a Cuttlebug die, Martha Stewart edge punch to make the paper lace, tiny polka dot ribbon from Jo-Ann's, seed pearls from Michael's. I made the fabric flowers by cutting seven scalloped circles each with my Spellbinders dies. The fabric was doubled, with each layer a different fabric. I still haven't found any really good tutorials for making the fabric flowers, even by searching YouTube. If you know of any, please let me know. All edges were distressed with the SU distressing tool and sponged with Creamy Caramel. My stitching was done by machine.

A Child's Card

The challenge this week at the Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge blog is to make a card for a child. Our sponsor is Lauretta's Stamps and we were generously given our choise of several images to use for our DT sample. I have colored the one I selected with Copics. The DP used here is all digital from Digital Delights printed on my home printer and layered over Lavendar Lace and Barely Banana CS. The edges were sponged the Creamy Caramel and the bottom was punched with a Martha Stewart edge punch. The chipboard heart was cut with a Cuttlebug die. I used white crackle paint to which I added a drop of Lavendar Lace reinker. The flower is a Prima and I used Stickles on the celestial mobile. Vintage Fairies

It's time again for the Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge and this week it's Fairies. I love fairies and have been wanting to do a project with this vintage image for some time. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to use it for this week's design team card. I also made the card with the Shabby Tea Room and City Crafter (pink) challenges in mind. The challege this week at the Shabby Tea Room is to make something with chipboard. I like making my own chipboard, which I do by cutting two or three layers of thin cardboard with dies and then stacking and gluing them to achieve chipboard thickness. Since I wanted this chipboard to be white, these were cut with the white backing that comes in the SU designer paper packs. I also dry embossed the butterfly for more texture. Once glued, I sponged them with Creamy Caramel ink and coated them with chunky glitter. The card base is Pink Pirouette and then a layer of Very Vanilla that I stamped a pattern on with Vintage Photo distress ink. Both layers were sponged with Creamy Caramel. The vintage image was printed on my home printer and torn out. The edges were sponged with Creamy Caramel and Vintage Photo. I cut a piece out of a doily and added a bow of crinkly seam binding and a Prima rose plus a vintage style LaMode button on the butterfly.

April Showers

My goodness, it's Wednesday already! This week is going by in a woosssssh! I'm here today to share my Creative Inspirations DT card with you. We have a sketch to challenge you this week. I really loved the sketch - too bad I covered up all the nice layout features with my embellishments. Why did I spend so much time dry embossing and then clear heat embossing that black panel, and then sewing it down with a fancy stitch? All you can see is a little corner and edge peeking out. I am going to use this sketch again and hopefully will restrain myself next time. What do you think - can I do it?

The Details (there are lots of dets this time as I worked on this silly thing all day on Tuesday): The wonderful vintage calendar is from a site called Clearly Vintage which has an abundance of free vintage images. I downloaded all 12 months and hope to do a card a month with them. I printed it onto Very Vanilla CS and sponged it with Creamy Caramel.

The DP is digital from Designer Digitals, again printed on my home computer. Last week, a reader left me a question about ink usage when printing DP. It's really not too user unfriendly. I put a color cartridge into my printer in November and didn't change it again until March. Nowadays I don't do too much color printing other than card making so most of that was to print DP. I am not displeased with that amount of ink usage - especially for the instant gratification I get when I can alter and print my own paper, matching it up with other elements I am using.

The DP was also sponged with Creamy Caramel and distressed. The circle panel was stamped with the SU Script BG stamp in Vintage Photo and sponged also with Creamy Caramel. The black panel was dry embossed with the CB Victoria EF and then brayered with Versamark and clear embossed. I made up my own sentiment "There can be no rainbow without drops of rain", printed it and then dry embossed it with the CB Organic border EF, sponged it with Creamy Caramel, punched it with a MS border punch and sewed it down. Bow is crinkled seam binding, flourish is a die cut from a BossKut die with Creamy Caramel paper and sponged with the same ink.

The flower is hand made using a Spellbinders Flower Petals die. My inspiration came from this post. You have to see the amazing flowers and really beautiful card Grace Nywening made. Using Very Vanilla CS, I cut four each of three sizes of flowers and stamped both sides with a Tim Holtz floral flourish stamp in Vintage Photo. Then I sponged all edges with Creamy Caramel and snipped each petal from the edge to almost the center. Then I squirted each die cut with Tattered Angels glimmer mist to saturate them, shaped each individual layer and let them dry. Then I stacked them together, gluing each layer. Finally I am happy with a flower that I made! I thought it was the perfect finishing touch.

So, I spent way longer than I should have messing around with this little masterpiece. Hope you like it! I sincerely appreciate the time you take to leave me a comment.

Altered CD Challenge

Welcome back to my regular Wednesday post for the Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge Blog. Our hostess, Nat, has challenged us to make an altered CD this week. Well, you probably know I'm not big on projects, but when it's a challenge we're always up for it, right? I just happened to be browsing Isabella's Sketchbook store and saw this adorable round digital image and thought it would be perfect. So at least I had a starting place. I colored it with Copics and then embossed it three times with ultra thick embossing powder, put in in the freezer for 20 minutes and then cracked it. After that, I rubbed Creamy Caramel ink into it to make the crackes look aged. I'm not all that happy with the result. I was pleased with the coloring job I did, but then the Versamark sort of smeared the Copic ink. The first time I tried it, it had even worse bleeding. I had the image all colored and looking beautiful. I coated it with Tim Holtz Crackle Accents and left it to dry over night. When I checked it the next morning, the ink had bled quite badly. So the first attempt hit the trash. If you look closely at this one, you can see that some of the blue ink seemd to bleed a bit. It wasn't like that until I applied the Versamark and the EP crystals. Lesson - embossing doesn't work so hot with Copics.

Details: Step 1 - I cut a ring about 1/2" wide using my old Creative Memories cutting system. The circle is the same diameter as the CD. Then I wrapped it with cream satin ribbon. Step 2 - I ran a basting thread along the edge of the lace and gathered it a bit so it would curve around the diameter of the CD and glued it in place with Beacon Fabri-Tac glue. Step 3 - I cut a scalloped ring to fit just inside the outer circle with Nestabilities. I used the white cardboard backing from an SU designer paper pack. I cut two and layered one ont top of the other for thickness, then sponged the edges with Creamy Caramel and applied chunky glitter. Step 4 - The image panel was glued to the back of the glitter ring, which was then glued to the top of the satin ribbon ring. I prettied up the ribbon and was good to go.

I really don't care for projects because they take time away from card making, but I must admit, this was fun to do and I may make more for gifts. I think I'll leave out the cracked glass step next time and just enjoy the image is it is.

Today is a Gift

I really love this quote. Each day truly is a gift from God and sometimes we need to be reminded to be in the moment and truly enjoy the day. It's a beautiful day in Miami, Florida. Its bright and sunny, started out cool, but will go to a glorious 75 degrees later in the day. I'll be heading out shortly to pick up a truckload of donated food from our local Feeding America foodbank to be distibuted later today to more than 100 struggling families via my church food pantry. I pray that God will help each one of us to see the simple human dignity in each one of our brothers and sisters as we distribute bags of food so their family can eat tonight.

But you probably came here to see what I had made for today's Creative Inspirations Wednesday challenge, right? I love what I have to share with you today. The papers are from a digital paper pack called Flour Sack from Raspberry Road. I love these retro prints that were used in dishtowels and tablecloths in the 50's and 60's. I thought they matched up perfectly with the apron that looks pretty retro too! The apron is a digital image from Sugar Creek Hollow and the sentiment is from Verve. Real Red and Whisper White CS are combined with this year's SU In-Colors Crushed Curry and Bermuda Bay. The punch is the Sale-a-Bration punch and just for fun I added a whisp of yellow paper ribbon. I think the card is as bright and sunny as our day today.

A Wee Bit O'Green...

...and a couple of wee folks. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! This is my DT card for the Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge. Our challenge this week is to make a card with the colors yellow, green and white. So I guess the green can count as a St. Patrick's greeting, right?

The image is a digi I bought a couple of months ago from Sugar Nellie. This is the first time I have used it. It's colored with Copics plus a little Stickles on her leafy wings and sponged around the edges with Barely Banana and More Mustard. The striped DP is MME and the yellow floral is Jenni Bowlin. The green gingham is from Jo-Ann's. The punch is from SU as is the sentiment. Flowers are Prima and the leaf is a MS punch.

Hope you like this fun spring-like card. I enjoyed making it. It was nice to be working with these pretty spring colors. A Lucky Charm

Greetings and welcome to my weekly Creative Inspirations post. This week our challenge is Charms. I thought most of the DTs would be using metal charms so I took a detour and used a Tim Hotltz Fragament Charm. It's clear lucite to which I glued a punched out circle with a clover on it. The clover was digitally cropped out of the Irish Audrey digital image from The Stamping Boutique. I enlarged it a bit, printed it and colored it with Copics. Then I ink distressed the edges and punched it out with a circle punch. Then I spread a little Crystal Effects on it and immediately pressed the fragament onto it.

Most of the DP is from Lucky Me from Raspberry Road Designs, a digital company plus I used Glorious Green and Green Galore CS from SU. I started out using just the green tone from Green Galore, but decided to mix it up a little. The cute little Audrey image was colored with Copics and the ink distressing was done using Frayed Burlap distress ink from Tim Holtz.

I was rushing on this a bit because I was also trying to finish a card for my DD's 21st birthday before we left to take her out to dinner. After looking at the card again later in the evening, I decided it was pretty plain and could use some more embellishing, but too late. I had already submitted it to Creative Inspirations for publication so I had to go with it that way. At least it has a ribbon and some brads to spruce it up a bit.

Lace, Pins and Pearls

Welcome to my Wednesday post. Does it seem to you like this week is just streaking by in a blur? I was away last weekend visiting my daughter and am leaving for another family weekend on Thursday. So my whole week's DT commitments have been compressed into several days for the second week in a row. Yikes, I'm kicking out cards in record time (which is about 4-5 each for me - LOL). This week, the challenge at Creative Inspirations is Lace, Pins and Pearls.

Here's my DT card. Not much to tell. Just a few layers in Perfect Plum and Barely Banana. The DPs are digital and the flowers made with Spellbinders dies. The sentiment and brackets are from Verve, the yellow pearls are Kaiser and the tiny pin from Tim Holtz. The vintage image is from Magic Moonlight and was printed on my home printer.

Monochromatic Butterfly

It's Wednesday again - Happy Hump Day, everybody!! Here's my DT card for this week's Creative Inspirations challenge. This week's challenge is monochromatic. For some reason, monochromatic cards always scare me. Don't know why - maybe I think I won't be able to stick to just one color. This one was easy peasy once I decided on the color.

This cute little primitive butterfly is a creation of Tracy over at Sugar Creek Hollow, a brand new digital stamp company specializing in vintage and primitive stamps. I decided to use Bashful Blue and Very Vanilla. The DP is digital and I matched up the colors by scanning a piece of Bashful blue and changing the colors in the DP to match. Nothing too complex on this card - a bunch of layers and a mess of Spellbinder dies and you've got yourself a card. If you have any questions, leave it in the comments or email me. You Light Up My Life - A Sepia Challenge

This week, the challenge at the Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge Blog is to make a sepia card. I was a little nervous about this assignment too, since I am pretty new to the design team I wanted to make a seriously nice card. Then I saw this Tiffany lamp, a Friday Freebie from Sugar Creek Hollow and everything just clicked. I was off and running.

The designer paper is from K&Co., and the brown textured CS is from the DCWV Heritage Pack. It came textured and then I ran it through the CB Textile embossing folder. Once embossed, I used a sanding block on it to reveal the white core. Then I scissor distressed the edges and sponged the entire panel with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo distress ink. The edges of the main DP panel were cut with a Spellbinders die and sponged with Vintage Photo ink. The frame around the lamp is also a digital image from Sugar Creek Hollow. I don't think it's for sale yet. I have it because I am on the Grand Opening design team. That panel was also sponged with Vintage Photo distress ink. I made up the sentiment and printed it on my home computer. It was cut with a Spellbinders tag die.

Now here's the part I'm not sure about. See how the lamp shade is sort of cloudy looking? Well I tried watercoloring it with my Vintage Photo ink, but that smeared the printer ink, even though I had heat set it. I covered it over with gold Distress Stickles and I like how it looks. But then I was thinking it was too cloudy, so I makde another lamp shade and colored it with Copics. Then I glazed it with Crystal Effects. The updated photo is below. My dilema - I can't decide which I like better. I think its the first version. Even though it the lampshade looks cloudy, it think it looks weathered and attractive. Which one do you prefer? Love Conquers All

I love that sentiment "Love Conquers All". It's so perfect for this card using the Wings of Hope digital stamp from Whimsey Stamps. It's a special limited edition only available through February 28th. All proceeds are being donated to the American Red Cross to help with the Haitian earthquake relief effort.

This is my design team card for this week's Creative Inspirations Wednesday challenge. The theme this week is Anyone for Leftovers? I thought Nat came up with such a cute name for a challenge that all of us should be able to take part in. I have a bin brimming with bits and pieces of past cards. I was able to make this entire card (except for the base piece) out of leftovers from cards made earlier this week. The rose chintz and Mellow Moss pieces you will recognize from a pretty vintage Valentine I posted several days ago. You'll see the rose chintz again, as well as the cranberry dotted paper, when I post my quilt card on Friday. The upside down hearts have been in my bits and pieces box for at least six month. They were the punched out part from a Cuttlebug die. I don't know why I didn't toss them, but they finally found a home here on this card.

The rose chintz paper is digital so I was able to digitally paper piece the carousel horse. The rest of the horse is colored with Copics and Stickles were applied to the mane and tail, with a little Crystal Effects on the leaves for dimension. The Love Conquers All sentiment was computer generated. The silver embossed floral flourish is a stamp from Inkadinkado and the silver embossed flourish around the Mellow Moss panel is from Waltzing Mouse stamps. I used the Textile Cuttlebug embossing folder on the cream layer. The silver corner pieces were cut with a Spellbinders die and silver embossed then topped with a bead cap.

With Love, From Me to You

Last Wednesday, when I posted my guest design team card for the Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge Blog, I thought my time with that team was over. But the lovely Nat, the blog owner, emailed me and asked me if I would like to join as a full time member. Of course, I said yes, and here I am with a weekly Wednesday post for Creative Inspirations. Here is my first card as a full fledged member of the design team. The challenge this week is Pink & Cream. It should have been a realitively easy challenge, right? NOT!! I had something in mind when I sat down to create and it just was not working out. This is the card that I struggled until 2 a.m. on the night before last. I had several lovely vintage Valentine images loaded with pinks. But my paper didn't match well with the pinks, I couldn't find any pink DP I was very excited about, tried doing several different elements with silver embossing, my desk was littered with rejected elements and cut paper. I finally found this MME DP in my stash but it didn't go well with the candy pink CS I had cut, so I ended up going with deep rose accents. When I made that decision, things finally started to fall into place.



Not too many supplies or tools on this one. As I said, the DP is MME, the cream CS is Very Vanilla and the rose is Rose Red. Dies used were Cuttlebug and Spellbinders, plus two CB embossing folders. If you want to know any specifics, leave me a question in the comments and I'll post a reply.
