Spots 'n Dots

I LOVE polka dots but you probably already knew that.  I went a little dotty on this one :)  It seemed like I got on a roll with them and couldn't stop myself from adding more and more.  This is my sample for the Frilly week of a new challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.  It's Rebecca's turn to host and her challenge is for us to use a neglected die and try to think out of the box when using it.  I used my rosette and mini rosette dies.  (After I had the tag all made I realized that I used a rosette cut from the rosette die on my scraps project a couple of weeks ago. But I didn't actually use the die then.  That rosette had been in my scraps box for probably a year.)  I used the die to cut crinoline rather than paper or CS.  After I had cut the crinoline strips for the rosette, I stamped them with Wendy Vecchi's Live and Make Art script stamp in Jet Black Archival then sponged the tops with Worn Lipstick DI.  The rosettes were then misted with Biscotti Perfect Pearls mist which softened them.  I like how the tops of the folds now look like stripes and sort of mimic the stenciled stripes.

For the tag, I started with a jumbo manila tag, used the Wendy Vecchi Dots and Strips Borders stencil to create the strips and then used her Polka Dotty stencil for the polka dots.  They were stenciled with Worn Lipstick DI.  I also lightly stamped the script stamp with Jet Black archival ink.  I had that much of the tag done when I misted the rosettes with the Biscotti Perfect Pearls.  I turned the rosettes face down and gently rubbed them around in it on my craft sheet.   Then I took the tag and blotted up the excess spots of Perfect Pearls that we then tinted with Worn Lipstick.

The whimsical flourishes are from an older Wendy Vecchi stamp set called The Art of Making it Merry.  I saw Wendy use it on a piece she posted on her blog recently and left her a comment asking what the name of the stamp set was.  She emailed me that she had an extra stamp and offered to mail it to me.  Talk about RAKs, wow, how sweet was that?  (thanks again, Wendy!) This is the first time I have had a chance to use it.  I stamped it in Worn Lipstick and then clear embossed it.

The pieces from the new Spring Greenery die were cut from kraft CS, edged with Vintage Photo and then the polka dots stamp from Wendy's Seriously Art set was used to stamp the dots in Vintage Photo DI.  I couldn't resist adding some tiny polka dotted butterflies cut with the new Butterfly Frenzy decorative strip die.  They were sponged with Worn Lipstick and then stamped with Worn Lipstick polka dots and clear embossed.  The sentiments are also from the same Seriously Art set.  I finished it all off with some doodle dots and squiggles.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Please be sure to stop by Frilly and Funkie to see the wonderful work the rest of the DT has to share.  I hope you will be inspired to dust off some old dies and play along with us.  You might win the votes of the DT and receive our Funkie Favorite badge for your blog or you could be our random winner of a $25 shopping spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Golden Rose

I'm back today with week two of the stencil challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.  This week it is the Funkie side of the team who will be sharing their work.  I actually made this piece last week and then decided it wasn't shabby chic enough for the Frilly side of the team.  But it fits right in with the Funkies.

I started with a half sheet of Ranger Speciality Stamping Paper.  I mashed a Worn Lipstick ink pad down on my craft sheet and then sprinted it with water.  I did the same thing with a Walnut Stain pad but just didn't make as large a puddle then I blotted my paper into these puddles, drying in between with my heat tool so it wouldn't seem muddy.

I added a little text with a Wendy Vecchi stamp and Jet Black Archival ink.  Then using a 12x12" Prima rose stencil, I applied Wendy Vecchi Gold Embossing Paste.  Using a piece of white CS, I stenciled the Tim Holtz Dot Fade stencil with embossing ink and the sprinkled on Weathered White embossing powder and heated it.  Then I sponged it with Faded Jeans DI and edged it with Walnut Stain. I used a Tim Holtz sentiment.  I cut the left over embossed pieces with my new Butterfly Frenzy die and sponged their edges with Vintage Photo DI.  One butterfly is mounted over a larger butterfly cut from an old book page and that's sitting on  one of my bronze filigree corners.  That about wraps this one up, though I must say that I do love the new Butterfly Frenzy die.  I had it in the boutique, but it may be sold out.  No worries though as Sizzix has shipped me another batch which should be in this time next week.

Simply Scraps

Hello and happy weekend!  I'm so pleased that you stopped by today.  We are kicking off another monthly challenge over at Our Creative Corner.  I'm the hostess for March and I am challenging everyone to use their scraps.  That's right, we know you have a well endowed hoard of bits you have made and not used plus all those end cuts of designer paper or patterns you have created.  Rummage through your box of left overs from previous projects, pieces of paper, snippets of ribbon, embellishments made and never used. If you are like me and can't bear to discard all those yummy scraps, you'll have a variety of possibilities to use for this project. Let's put some of them to use!

I want to also mention that Tando Creative is our March sponsor and they will be donating a prize to one randomly selected player of this month's challenge.  So we hope to see you playing along at Our Creative Corner during the month of March.

For my odds and ends project, I rummaged around in my scrap box and pulled out this tag.  It's a leftover from the 2012 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style.  I had covered a tag with Tim Holtz tissue wrap, slathered it with Multi Medium and pressed tissue paper into it, making sure it was wrinkled.  Then I covered it with Tim Holtz distress stains - I don't remember which red it was - Fired Brick, maybe?  There is also Tarnished Brass DS on it.  But I just couldn't get excited about it for a Christmas tag but couldn't throw it out either so into the box it went.  Further digging in the box yielded the butterfly, the rosette, the hearts, the harlequin die cut and the die cut window frame.  The leaves were die cut with the new Spring Greenery decorative strip die from a small piece of Maja's  It's Christmastime designer paper.

Pawing around in my chipboard scraps, I came up with one the right size to use on my new Trellis Frameworks die.  I cut the chipboard with the die, painted it white with gesso and glued it down with Multi Medium Matte.  Then I took a paintbrush and brushed gesso over everything.  When the gesso was dry, I painted it again with Wendy Vecchi's new crackle paste.  But I guess I did't put it on heavy enough as my cracks were not very big.  Oh well, live and learn.  I know you are supposed to apply it over a coat of another color embossing paste and I was experimenting to see if it would work over a coat of gesso.

After edging the tag with Walnut Stain DI, it was time to add all my lovely little embellies.  I spent about 15 minutes arranging and rearranging them until I was pleased with the result.  I finished it off by adding a couple of Chit Chat stickers.

Hope you like it!

Hugs,
Linda
