A Surprise BOO

 

Hello everyone and Happy Hump Day to you.  I can't believe it's Wednesday already and we are practically on the downhill slide to another weekend.  The time seems to be streaking by.  I almost missed having time to make something for the Funkie side of the Anything But a Card with a Twist, the Frilly and Funkie challenge that is being hosted this week by Sue Carrington.    We are supposed make some sort of craft item with a hidden pocket or compartment.  

For my hidden area, I decided to use the small kraft sleeves that I sell at The Funkie Junkie Boutique - I know, not very original, but I've been so busy that I never developed a design for this week.  I just sat down about 9:00 p.m. and started brainstorming.  

I started with a jumbo tag and did the Marbled Stain technique first with Rusty Hinge and Brushed Pewter and then with Crushed Grape and Brushed Pewter.  Then I embossed it with the Spooky Words Texture Fade.  I love the way it came out with the blended colors and the wonderful shine from the Distress Metallic stains.   Next I stamped both the outside of the envelopes and the inside.  The flowers were left overs from this project and I used a TH Custom Fastener to create the spider brad.  The letters are chipboard covered with canvas, cut with the Word Play die and stained with Rusty Hinge DS.  

Here you can see the hidden tickets that are inside of the sleeves.  I secured the tickets with mini binder clips and connected them with dyed seam binding.  The BOO became a tiny banner.

Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #6

Whew, I'm back after another crazy whirlwind weekend trip to Gainesville to see the Florida Gators play and to spend a couple of days house hunting in the area.  All these weekend trips are playing havoc with staying on track with all my designing/blogging and keeping up with all my store tasks, but I did manage to get another tag done for the 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie style.  And I will be visiting all the players to let each and every one of you know how wonderful your work is and how happy I am to have you joining in the fun with me this year!  The snowflake rosette was also colored with Brushed Pewter DS.  

I finally got a supply of the snowflake rosette dies in the store and of course had to grab one for me.  This snowflake was made with the Mini Snowflake Rosette die but I do have both in stock.  For this tag, I started with a jumbo tag and glued a page from a vintage book to it.  When the glue was good and dry, I applied packing tape and then ripped it off which pulled off some of the print.  I had to do that 4 times before I wore the print down to the look I was going for.  Then I sponged it liberally with Iced Spruce distress ink and then sponged the edges with Vintage Photo DI.  The book page was a little lose around some of the edges so I deliberately ripped off anything that was lose for more of a worn effect.  The next step was to stamp snowflakes from Mini Holidays over the top half in Sticky EP and when heated, poured the awesome Rock Candy Distress Stickles over it.  

The Weathered Clock was cut from chipboard and colored with Aged Mahogany distress stain and then given two coats of UTEE.  The tree was cut from vanilla CS and stained with Pine Needles DS and then edged with Brushed Pewter DS.  

Both the white mesh ribbon and the Venise lace bows are from my shop.  I painted the lace with SU's Cherry Cobbler reinker/water to give it a candy cane feel.  The little flower up top was cut from Cherry Cobbler paper with an older Sizzix die (Flowers & Vine #3), the tag was cut with a PTI mini tag die and the Joy sentiment is an older SU stamp, tied on with a piece of burlap string from my shop also.

CAS for OCC

Greetings everyone,

It's time again for another challenge at Our Creative Corner.  Meihsia Liu is our hostess again this week and she wants us to make a Clean and Simple Kitchen project this week.  So all in the interest of being a good team sport, I set out to make as close to CAS as I could get.  I severely restrained myself and kept it as plain as I could bear to make it.  I created my vintage Thanksgiving postcard with PhotoShop Elements and relied on dry embossing for my impact.  The flower was left over from last week's round fall wall hanging and I thought it gave just enough interest to the twine bow without getting too fussy.

Okay, here's my dirty little secret...this piece sat on my desk for a day and finally I couldn't stand it any more.  I broke down and pulled off the white embossed panel and stamped and glittered the orange panel.  I also distressed the edges a bit.  I felt much better about the card then, especially after I added the leaves and the seasonal Chit Chat stickers :)
