Inspiration Photo Meets Tim Holtz's June Challenge

 

Hello friends, so happy to have you visit me again.  I'm here with my sample for week 2 of the photo inspiration challenge at Frilly and Funkie.  Here's the photo again along with my sample for the Funkie week of the challenge.  I also was inspired by Tim Holtz's June tag using the photo tinting technique and will be entering this tag into his challenge.

Don't forget,  you can double click the photos and they will open up large for better viewing.  I cut a tag from white card stock with the Tag and Bookplates die and stamped it with a stamp from the Ultimate grunge set using SU's Taken with Teal and Versamark, then clear embossed it.  Next I did the Marbled Stains technique using Mustard Seed and Picket Fence distress stains and then randomly stamped with the Curiousities set in Coffee archival ink.

For embellishments I added a film strip that I heated to make it curl, a Mini Paper Clip, a Foliage piece embossed with Enamelware EP, and a Label Pull with the word Photograph from the Chit Chat stickers.  I die cut the tiny hearts from a book page and coated them with Glossy Accents.  I

The vintage photo was downloaded from Magic Moonlight and printed on regular white card stock.  I used Taken With Teal and Mustard Seed DI with a Cut 'n Dry Pen Nibs to color the photos.  It didn't color perfectly but it worked pretty well.  I didn't have any photo paper and tried printing it on to glossy card stock, but the ink smeared with the Cut 'n Dry nib so I went with plain CS.

Button and Burlap or Bows

 

Hi everyone, glad to have you back with me today.  I'm here as the host of Our Creative Corner this week and my challenge is easy peasy this time around.  I want you to use some of my very favorite embellishments.  Just make something with Buttons and either Burlap and/or Bows.

Here's my sample that I made using the white burlap that I sell in The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  It's pretty stiff as is, but I did brush a thin coat of Multi Medium Matte across the back and let dry and before trying to die cut it.  It held together beautifully.  The lace is from my shop also, originally white but I stained it with coffee.  The button card is a stamp from PaperTreyIn.  The burlap twine and the burlap string are also both from my boutique.  The canvas flower is hand rolled, cut using the Tattered Pinecone die. The stick pin was assembled by me and similar stick pins are also available in my shop.

Get Your Sunglasses Out!

Good morning friends!  Hope you are awake 'cause this bright and sunny card will give you a jolt!  I'm here to share a card I made for the Frilly and Funkie challenge this fortnight.  I'm the host and I've chosen a photo inspiration challenge.

I ran across this photo while searching for inspiration for a challenge theme and just couldn't resist using it for my challenge.  We have a pair of giant Amazon parrots that look very much like this one that roost about a block from our house.  When I hear them squawking I run outside to catch their morning or evening flyover.  It's really an amazing sight!

Obviously I have taken my inspiration from the vivid colors although I wish I had worked in more green.  I don't usually go for the bright vivid colors in my work, but I certainly did enjoy working with these colors.  I broke out a bottle of Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions in Vibrant Turquoise.  The yellow is Mustard Seed - I used both the pad for sponging and the distress stain to stain the canvas.  The paper is digital by Raspberry Road, I used Tim Holtz's Tattered Florals and Movers and Shapers Mini Tattered Florals to cut the crinoline and the canvas.  I also made use again of the Enamelware Embossing Power that I have become so fond as well as the Vintage Lace decorative strip die.  The sentiment is from Crafty Secrets.

POST UPDATE:  A reader asked about using the Tattered Flowers Decorative Strip die to cut crinoine or canvas.  No, I don't have a magic trick.  I used that die to cut the tiny yellow flower at the very top.  It has been enameled and then coated with the Enamelware embossing powder.  All the fabric was cut with either the Tattered Florals or Mini M&S Tattered Florals dies.  Unfortunately the decorative strip dies only cut paper and card stock.  I really like the Tattered Flowers Decorative Strip Die though because it cuts such a variety of small flowers.  I have found them so handy for many different embellishment needs.

What Can You Do With a Pocket Watch Frame?

I'm back with a second post today because I couldn't resist playing with Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities II #9 challenge 9 (this week generously sponsored with a $25 gift certificate from Simon Says Stamp) and the Multi Medium Matte resist technique Sue shared over at Frilly and Funkie today.  And was this ever fun!  This week at CC2C, Linda has us creating some sort of art piece with Tim Holtz's pocket watch - it's page 35 in the Compendium of Curiosities 2.  And really, it's not a technique.  Just get yourself one of Tim's pocket watches (they're available in my store for just $6.29) and let your creativity rip.  I was a little stymied due to the miniature size it allows but then I decided to do a bit of decorating on the outside of the case.  I created a faux bezel out of just white card stock, cutting it with two Spellbinders circle dies, then ran it through the Damask texture fade to give it a bit of texture.  Next I applied a thin coat of silver acrylic paint dabber.  When that was dry, I applied black acrylic paint dabber and then wiped it right off.  I glued it to the watch face with Claudine Hellmuth's Multi Medium Matte.  I aged a couple of tiny silver findings with Pitch Black alcohol ink, dripped on, allowed to dry and then rubbed a lot of it off with a paper towel.  That was also glued with MMM to create a more feminine jewelry piece.  My little vintage girl has daisies in her hair that I tinted yellow with Tim's photo tinting technique that he shows on his blog for the June tag.  Unfortunately they don't show much through the glass.  I aged the glass by putting tiny drops of Ginger alcohol ink on the inner rim of the glass.  To control the drips, I dripped the ink on a toothpick and then let it go in tiny drips from the toothpick to the glass.  To further the femininity of the piece, I wove a piece of shabby seam binding through the chain and added some silver metal charms.  I found a carved bead that looks like ivory in my vintage button jar and tied it on with a string of burlap.  I aged the white doily with a spritz of Vintage Photo Distress Reinker and water in a mini mister and then sponged the edges a bit with Vintage Photo DI.  

I hate the way the red eye light on the camera made the metals glow orangy red.

I'm not really into CASE-ing, but I had to play with the fab technique Sue Carrington shared with us on her StepXStep project today at Frilly and Funkie.  I sponged with Mustard Seed and Broken China and when it got too green, I added a bit of sponging with Faded Jeans to bring it to more of a teal color to match the seam binding.  

I really did have a blast messing around with all these fun techniques, inks, metals and such.  Hope you were able to get some craft time in today too!  Thanks so much for stopping by.
