Funkie Crackle

Hello!  I'm back with my Funkie week DT project for Frilly and Funkie.  Last week I had a frilly crackle piece and this week I'm on the funkie side.  It's so much fun being able to mess around with more than one vintage style!  Our challenge hostess Pamellia wants us to show her some crackle and I believe I have filled the bill here!

I started out with a jumbo manila tag from my shop and gave it a couple sprinkles of Ken Oliver's Color Bursts (Yellow and Ultramarine Blue).  Then I misted the tag and the color literally burst.  I applied a little more water and let the drips roll around the tag for a minute or two, then mopped up the excess water and dried the tag.  Once the tag was dry, it was stamped a couple of times with a Tim Holtz cracked stamp using Jet Black Archival and then given a good coating of Wendy Vecchi's clear embossing paste.  Then I set it aside to dry over night.  The next day, the tag was nice and shiny and the colors showed through perfectly.  Then came the crackle...using a Ti Holtz Honeycomb stencil, I applied Wendy Vecchni's Crackled Paste through the stencil.  If you use Wendy's Crackled Paste, be sure you lay down a substrata of some sort of paste for the crackle paste to adhere to.  If not, it will crack and fall off!  My application of the Crackled Paste was intensionally random, using the stencil in some areas and in other areas just applying the paste directly to the tag.  I let this dry for a couple of hours and then it was time to embellish.

Once dry, the entire tag was sponged with Vintage Photo.  Next,  I created a wash with some of the Ultramarine Blue Color Burts and painted it on one side of the tag.  This was also dried and then the entire tag was again sponged with Vintage Photo DI.  The coneflower was stamped in Jet Black Archival on watercolor paper and watercolored with the Ken Oliver Color Bursts and then edged with Vintage Photo DI.  The flower was fussy cut and popped up with Ranger double sided foam adhesive.

A ticket was die cut from white CS, sponged with Vintage Photo DI and then a few puffs of Ultramarine Blue Colorburst was added which became a glorious shade of blue once it was lightly misted with water.  The word Hello was cut out of it with the Handwritten Celebrate thinlits die.  I painted a piece of chipboard with Black Soot distress paint and glued the ticket to it so the cut out would show up in black.  The "Received" stamp and also the number stamp at the bottom are from the new Tim Holtz Correspondence stamp set.  The tag was topped off with several rhinestones that just happened to match the Ultramarine Blue.

This tag was basically the result of just sitting down at my craft table and messing around.  I didn't really have a plan for what sort of crackle project I was going to do so I just pulled out some supplies and start to play.  I love the way the crackle texture came out and the colors are delightful - all just a happy accident!  Please stop by Frilly and Funkie to see what the rest of the design team has to inspire you.  I can guarantee eye candy and certainly much better planned projects than mine!
