Happy New Year friends and followers! I'm so glad you stopped by to share a bit of New Year's cheer with me today! This is my project for a new "Anything Goes" challenge kicking off today over at Frilly and Funkie. Nicole is our host this fortnight and I'm so glad she is starting off our year with a general theme. I love to be able to pick my own theme and still have it count...I guess that's not a really challenge, but still fun, right?
And speaking of Frilly and Funkie, we are kicking off the new year with some team changes. Frilly team member Rebecca Deeprose has stepped down from the team at the end of the year and Pamellia Johnson is joining us in her place. We will miss Rebecca. She has given us some incredible eye candy over the past two years but we know that Pamellia will also bring an amazing paper crafting talent to our team!
I knew I wanted to do a new year's themed project using a vintage image. I sorted through some I had stored and found this one - perfect! I could do something with the traditional reds and greens of Christmas - always close to my heart. And I started thinking about red stripes and polka dots - how I love strips and polka dots together. So I created my own using Wendy Vecchi's stamps and stencils and along the way decided to throw in Tim's Gothic stencil too. Using Wendy's Red Geranium archival ink pad, I stenciled the Yipes Strips stencil onto white CS and did the same with the Gothic stencil.
While I still had the red ink out, I used a Wendy Vecchi polka dot stamp to stamp the layers of Tattered poinsettias I had cut out. The bottom green leaves were stamped with the Reverse Dots background stamp and Mowed Lawn DI. They were scrunched up and unscrunched, then edged with Vintage Photo DI.
I created the Joy panel by embossing white CS with the Holly Branch texture fade, then colored the leaves with a paintbrush and distress ink pads using Mowed Lawn and a tiny bit of Pine Needes. It was then sponged with Pine Needles at the top and Antique Linen at the bottom to fill in the white space. The edges were inked with Vintage Photo and a bit of Queen's Gold EP was applied around the edges. Red stickles colored the holly berries. I love how this looks so much like a vintage postcard.
I really didn't have any green inks that I was happy with for the greenery so I took a Mowed Lawn pad and applied it direct to paper on white CS. I didn't saturate it leaving some random white showing through. I went over it again with a Pine Needles ink pad. Then I spritzed it with Tarnished Brass distress spray stain. I wish I had taken a photo of it as it was so pretty. The greenery was die cut with the Holiday Greens thinlits dies.
My masterpiece was too large to be a card, so I mounted it on white corrugated cardboard and added a chipboard die cut small easel on the back. I love that die. I don't know if it is still in production. Probably not because it was one of the first Tim Holtz Bigz dies, most of which are now retired. I edged the white cardboard with Vintage Photo DI and also added some heat embossing with Queen's Gold embossing powder around the edges.I really love this. All the wonderful red and white patterns make my heart sing for joy! I hope you have a fabulous 2015!
I'm finally going to enter a few challenges too, including:
Dragonfly Dreams Challenge - Vintage
Winter Wonderland - Fussy & Fancy
Sweet Stampin - Anything Goes
These products were used to make the above project. The are available at The Funkie Junkie Boutique were Ranger/Tim Holtz and most other name brand products are always 20% below MSRP.
