Get your sunglasses out folks, Lori Rider is hosting a color challenge this week at Our Creative Corner. Lori's challenge is to make a modern inspired card featuring texture and the color scheme shown below. And what does she mean by "modern inspired"? Lori says "whatever it means to you! A good starting point could be to go for the OPPOSITE of vintage/distressed. When I hear "modern" I think clean lines, sleek and smooth, angles and shapes, funky and cool... I'm sure it means different things to everyone, so show us your interpretation with your fabulous creation."
Okay, so the OPPOSITE of vintage/distressed???? Oh no, that totally had me stumped for quite a while this week! But as you can see, I finally came up with something. Does it look modern? I pushed the boundaries of the challenge a bit, using Tim Holtz colors instead of Stampin' Up. I used Picked Raspberry, Peacock Feathers and Mustard Seed. I did use Very Vanilla and Soft Suede card stock from SU. And once I had a design in mind, I had fun using these bright sassy summer colors.
I started by embossing a piece of Very Vanilla with the Stencil Texture Fade and then sponged the points with Peacock Feathers. Using the Tattered Flowers Decorative Strip die, I cut flowers from white CS and sponged them with Picked Raspberry and Mustard Seed. My sentiment from Simple Sayings was stamped with Gathered Twigs which approximates Soft Suede. I clipped the sentiment on with a new Tim Holtz Stencil Mark which I just had to embellish with a tiny flower from the earlier Tattered Flowers cutting.
Then I cut a layer of white CS, embossed with the Rays texture fade and sponged with Mustard Seed. The shell of the card is Soft Suede. The polka dot buttons from my store matched perfectly!
I hope you are kicking off a wonderful spring weekend - please take a moment out of your busy day to stop over to Our Creative Corner to see what the other designers have to share. And thanks for stopping by my blog today!
