Cone of Love

Good Wednesday morning friends.  It's time for a frilly project for Frilly and Funkie.  I finished mine so late last night that I just couldn't keep my eyes open to do the post.  Plus I was having problems getting decent photos of my project.  Terry is our host this week and she has asked us to make a heartsy and lacy project for Valentine's Day.  Hence my Cone of Love :)

I'll start out by saying that I have re-engineered this thing 3 times and I am still not really satisfied.  If you saw it earlier today on the Frilly and Funkie blog, you may notice that I added the cupid.  I also threw in some handmade flowers to help fill the opening and stabilize the hearts.  This turned to be one of those nightmare projects that you just what to chuck out the window.  But I kept at it because I love the vintage tones, the hearts are pretty and I thought it had potential.  I'm still not sure it's 100% finished.
Anyway, I started by printing the Birdie Darling vintage graphic from the Graphic Fairy out on an 8.5x11" piece of white card stock and punched the edge with a lacey hearty Martha Stewart border punch and then sponged the edges with Vintage Photo DI. Then I made 12 chipboard hearts cut with the Mini Hearts Movers and Shapers and the heart from the Mini Love Movers and Shapers.  I had ccovered my chipboard with pages from a vintage book and once cut I ran them through the Regal Flourishes texture face and sponged with Vintage Photo DI.  Using 16 gauge wire, I created a spike and glued a heart to each side of the wire so basically the wire is sandwiched between two matching heart die cuts.  The heart were decorated with various pieces of bronze filigree from my stash, some of which I have loads of and need to get listed in the shop so you can have some too!
The cupid was cut from white chipboard with the Mini Love Stuck Movers and Shapers, then sponged with Vintage Photo DI, smeared with Glossy Accents and coated with Stickles Distress Rock Candy Glitter.  I made two cupids and sandwiched my wire spike between the two.  The flowers were cut from white card stock with the Tattered Flowers Decorative Strip die, sponged with Vintage Photo DI, misted, scrunched, dried with a heat tool and then layered, topped off with a Melissa Frances pearl.  The bow at the bottom is kraft paper twist fastened with a rusty safety pin soon to be listed in my shop also and I created a little bauble with my jewelry stash because I couldn't put my hands on my Tim Holtz baubles at 2am when I was trying to finish this thing up - LOL.

The gorgeous piece of vintage lace was a RAK from my friend Marcy Kaminski from En Papillote Arts.  Isn't it amazing?

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you will leave some love with the other designers from Frilly and Funkie.  They have some beautiful projects this week!

The products below used to make this project can be purchased at The Funkie Junkie Boutique - Tim Holtz/Ranger and Melissa Frances products are always 20% below MSRP.

  5. It's beautiful, but it needs more on top, height wise. At least that was my initial impression. I love the idea, you've got my wheels churning, if only there was time!
