Shabby Denim

 

Welcome back friends, followers, visitors!  What a fun challenge we have going for you this week over at Our Creative Corner.  Paula McClane is our hostess again this week and her fun challenge is Dressed in Denim - a recipe challenge.  Besides denim, your creation must include 3 buttons or brads and 3 ribbons or twine accents.  Your denim can be real or faux.

I've been making faux denim using canvas and a spritz of denim Color Wash or a little Faded Jeans distress stain, both of which work sensational for creating faux denim.  But for this challenge, I went for the real thing.  I have an old pair of my DD's jeans she was giving to Goodwill a while back and I snagged them to use for crafting.  So I cut off a chunk and glued it to cardboard using Beacon Frabi-Tac glue. When it was good and dry, using the TH Baroque and Mini Baroque M&S dies, I cut the frame and ran it through the Regal Flourishes texture fade, then sponged the high points with white craft ink.

Two doilies were sponged with Faded Jeans distress ink and then sprayed with Perfect Pearls Perfect Pearl mist to give them a nice sparkle.  The smaller doily was glued under the frame to make a base for my cameo element and the other doily was used for both the heart and the denim flower base.  Let me tell you how they were both created - I should have taken pictures, but I'm horrible at that.  When I'm creating, I'm creating.  I hate stopping to take pictures.

The heart on the right side was die cut from white chipboard and colored with faded jeans distress stain.    When dry, I glued a piece of the doily over it and then trimmed around the edges.  But I wanted it to have more of a porcelain feel to it so I coated it with UTEE.  It came out really cool - too bad I covered most of it up.  For the piece under the denim rose, I took another piece of the larger doily and using Claudine Helmuth Multi Medium Matte, I glued it to a piece of acrylic packaging.  When dry I cut it with the Mini Tattered Florals M&S die. Why did I go through the step of gluing the doily to the acrylic piece, you wonder?  Because many times when you die cut a doily, it all falls apart.  The acrylic sheet became an invisible backing to hold the doily flower in place.

All the silver pieces were made by sticking foil tape to card stock, die cutting them and smearing black paint dabber on them, then wiping most of it off.

This is not a card, but rather a little piece of desk art.  I put an easel on the back so it will stand up.
