Spots 'n Dots

I LOVE polka dots but you probably already knew that.  I went a little dotty on this one :)  It seemed like I got on a roll with them and couldn't stop myself from adding more and more.  This is my sample for the Frilly week of a new challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.  It's Rebecca's turn to host and her challenge is for us to use a neglected die and try to think out of the box when using it.  I used my rosette and mini rosette dies.  (After I had the tag all made I realized that I used a rosette cut from the rosette die on my scraps project a couple of weeks ago. But I didn't actually use the die then.  That rosette had been in my scraps box for probably a year.)  I used the die to cut crinoline rather than paper or CS.  After I had cut the crinoline strips for the rosette, I stamped them with Wendy Vecchi's Live and Make Art script stamp in Jet Black Archival then sponged the tops with Worn Lipstick DI.  The rosettes were then misted with Biscotti Perfect Pearls mist which softened them.  I like how the tops of the folds now look like stripes and sort of mimic the stenciled stripes.

For the tag, I started with a jumbo manila tag, used the Wendy Vecchi Dots and Strips Borders stencil to create the strips and then used her Polka Dotty stencil for the polka dots.  They were stenciled with Worn Lipstick DI.  I also lightly stamped the script stamp with Jet Black archival ink.  I had that much of the tag done when I misted the rosettes with the Biscotti Perfect Pearls.  I turned the rosettes face down and gently rubbed them around in it on my craft sheet.   Then I took the tag and blotted up the excess spots of Perfect Pearls that we then tinted with Worn Lipstick.

The whimsical flourishes are from an older Wendy Vecchi stamp set called The Art of Making it Merry.  I saw Wendy use it on a piece she posted on her blog recently and left her a comment asking what the name of the stamp set was.  She emailed me that she had an extra stamp and offered to mail it to me.  Talk about RAKs, wow, how sweet was that?  (thanks again, Wendy!) This is the first time I have had a chance to use it.  I stamped it in Worn Lipstick and then clear embossed it.

The pieces from the new Spring Greenery die were cut from kraft CS, edged with Vintage Photo and then the polka dots stamp from Wendy's Seriously Art set was used to stamp the dots in Vintage Photo DI.  I couldn't resist adding some tiny polka dotted butterflies cut with the new Butterfly Frenzy decorative strip die.  They were sponged with Worn Lipstick and then stamped with Worn Lipstick polka dots and clear embossed.  The sentiments are also from the same Seriously Art set.  I finished it all off with some doodle dots and squiggles.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Please be sure to stop by Frilly and Funkie to see the wonderful work the rest of the DT has to share.  I hope you will be inspired to dust off some old dies and play along with us.  You might win the votes of the DT and receive our Funkie Favorite badge for your blog or you could be our random winner of a $25 shopping spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

  12. It's a combo of some of my favorite things...the circus, Spring and polka dots and WOW that sentiment is truly the best. Love the font on that very much. I know I said Circus tent, but the lines make me think of the fabulous lines on the tent and the rest, well it's just sensational together and by the by...you can never have enough dots.
Thank you so much Linda for the visit and comment. I posted another today of items from your store. They never fail me...
    hugs to you,
    Lisa x
