XXXs & OOOs

Hi ya'll and happy Saturday.  Thank you for dropping by today to see what I've been up to this week.  Here is my project for Our Creative Corner.  Lisa Minckler is our host this week and she's gone all mushy on us.  She wants us to make a Valentine card/project using the sketch below.
It's fine to rotate it, which I did, but you must clearly include all of the elements in the sketch.  I made another wall hanging.  It seems like 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch cards just aren't a big enough canvas lately.  My corrugated cardboard sheets are a great size for a wall hanging, plus they are shabby enough to make me happy.

I started by ripping a page out of a vintage book and embossing with the Valentine's Background and Borders texture fade, then sponging the raised areas with Worn Lipstick DI.  I decided I wanted embossed metal for my small rectangles so I went back to using a Pepsi can again and cut it with Spellbinders Nestabilities.  The die cut rectangles were run through the Regal Flourishes texture fade and then I applied a combination of Watermelon alcohol ink and Pearl mixative.  When dry, I sanded the high points with my Sanding Grip.  For the LOVE letters, I ran a piece of the aluminium can through the same texture fade and then trimmed out the letters by hand.  They were painted with gesso and sanded also.  The 'I' and the 'U' were cut with the Vintage Market Decorative Strip die and mounted on a Tattered Banners die cut.  Tucked underneath at the bottom is a Distressed Doily that was die cut on the top and the bottom to create that shape.  'To My Valentine' from the Love Struck stamp set was stamped in Jet Black archival, trimmed out, sponged lightly with Vintage Photo DI and then given two coates of UTEE.  A couple of sweet cherubs and some resin hearts from Melissa Frances and two micro clothes pins finished off the piece.

I'll be listing all my recent Valentine's cards and hangings on Funkie's Junk over the weekend - check it out if you are interested in purchasing my work.  Thanks again for stopping by and for your sweet comments.  And now it's time to stop over to Our Creative Corner to see all the sweet Valentines our DT has to share.

POST UPDATE:  a reader asked what I use to cut the soda cans - I use my Stampin' Up rubber cutting scissors, but you could use the Tonic/Tim Holtz scissors also.

These products used to make this wall hanging are available at The Funkie Junkie Boutique - Tim Holtz/Ranger/Melissa Frances products are all 20% off MSRP!

  7. Oh my word! A shabby craftin' Pepsi drinker...now that's just fantastic. Pepsi rules!! Linda, I'm beyond amazed at what you produced here in the wee hours of the night. Of course it's nothing less than gorgeous and should be grander in size than a card. You wall hanging oozes mush and love and the metal detailing with the gesso is an absolute eye catcher!

  11. Amazing work. Sometimes a card is just big enough.. found that myself sometimes. I don't have all the equipment you have, but it's great inspirational guideline.
