Renaissance Revisted

Hello again!  It's the Funkie week over at the current Frilly and Funkie challenge and I have made a card for Anita Houston's Renaissance Men challenge.  The challenge is to make something honoring one of the four main Renaissance Men who have inspired us all at one time or another - Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael. Show a project depicting any one or more of their works, tell which it is, and who created it.  Here is mine for the Funkie side.  I used a copy of one of DaVinci's actual sketches that I found on the internet as the background paper.  It's a study of gears so for embellishments I used the TH Gadget Gear die.  First I covered a piece of chipboard with Ranger foil tape, cut the gears and then ran them through the Rivited texture fade.  I grunged them up a bit by applying a Pitch Black paint dabber and then rubbing most of it off.  I cut the loops off two charms from my shop with wire cutters and filed the area down, then painted them silver with Silver alcohol ink mixative and the also rubbed a bit of black acrylic paint over them to match the gears.

The sentiment is a quote from daVinci that I printed on my printer.  I second generation stamped a TH stamp over it with sepia archival ink and cut it with one of the Mini Labels M&S dies.  It was given a plain coat of UTEE for slickness and dimension and then edged with Silver paint dabber.  The dots in the corner are pearl dimensional paint that I squeezed out into drops on a sheet of acetate and when dry, I painted them with silver acrylic paint.  Then I smashed them a bit to look like hammered rivets but they didn't stay smashed very well :)

Be sure to stop by the Frilly and Funkie blog to see the awesome Renaissance inspired creations that our designers have to share.  And thanks so much for coming back to see what I had to share today.  Hope your week is going great!

  1. Oh I do like this a lot Linda. I would never have guessed you had used an image from the Internet for your background paper. It works so well and the gears are great. Adding your embellies to them makes them so special. Hugs, Buttons x

  2. I came here via Anita's blog. Wow - love this piece too!! I really do like 'technical' drawing images and da Vinci was so ahead of his time wasn't he? That's why your piece really works for me.
I'm now your latest follower so I can keep track of your creativity!

  9. Those gears are so darn cool! So clever to use the Rivited TF on those gears. Well aside from the gears, the entire card is pure bliss! Love that background you found. So cool!

  10. Oh this is fabulous, Linda! I thought of going with the notebook gears at first, and I'm now very glad I went another way, because this is so glorious: the rivets, the metal, fantastic colour... perfect way to build on that wonderful drawing. Completely and utterly love it! (My discarded gears have just gone on to be part of some 'leftovers' ATCs - http://alisonbomber.blogspot.cz/2012/08/afterthoughts.html - I'd love it if you had time to drop by.)
