Metal Mania - Tim's Tag #6

Greetings and thanks so much for stopping by today.  I'm here to share with you my interpretation of Tim's Tag #6.  When I first saw his embossed/painted metal tag yesterday, I really wasn't sure how I felt about it...still not.  I think concept is cool but I wasn't lit up about the colors.  Here is my much softer, more muted version.  I used the same metal foil tape he used, but went with a light brown acrylic paint.  I didn't sand the edges as I was going for a different sort of effect.  Now in retrospect, I'm sorry that I didn't.  I inked the embossed areas with Tea Dye DI and coated the whole tag with embossing powder.

I cut a snowflake and primitive heart out of corrugated cardboard and painted them with Fired Brick distress crackle paint and when dry, rubbed a bit of white gesso over them.  I stamped Believe in Frayed Burlap on a Spellbinders tag die cut and threaded a bit of the homespun type fabric through the ribbon slide slots.  I coated a couple of long fasteners with Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder to match the rusty bell.  The Tattered Pinecone die that I had on order came in and I couldn't wait to play with it.  I thought this was a perfect use for it.

That's it for #6.  Are you playing along?  I am trying to visit and comment on entries when time permits. Hope to see your entry over on Tim's blog.

  2. Love your gingham country version of Tim's tag - I wasn't thrilled with his colors either - but the techniques are the inspiration part! Your soft tan metal bg is just beautiful!

  5. Hi Linda,

Your tag is beautiful - your colors are more of an inspiration to me than the original. (sorry Tim - no offense intended)

I love the gingham and the soft colors.

  8. What a beautiful tag! This is a great take on Tim's tag. I think I'll be making mine more like yours with the lighter colors. Thanks for the inspiration!

  9. Another beautiful tag! I love the homespun country look and the rusty little bell. I love Mister Holtz, but he does rather intimidate me with all his knowledge and how he makes things look so effortless, but mine never come close even though I followed the instructions. Your art truly inspires me to create something that's not a copy, but something that's my own.

  13. Very good, I really did not like Tim's tag this time. Way too "much", but your version is clean and cute. Great job!
