Summer Heat!

Hello, I'm back to help Frilly and Funkie kick off week two of Sue Carrington's Summer Heat challenge.  Sue wants us to use bright warm colors and also to include a summer bloom.  This tag was so much fun to make.  I loved getting my fingers totally inky!   I decided to mix Ripe Persimmon and Picked Raspberry distress inks.  Starting with a jumbo manila tag, I brushed it liberally with gesso and when dry, stenciled on Wendy Vecchi's translucent embossing paste with a Prima lattice stencil.  When the embossing paste was totally dry,  I sponged on Ripe Persimmon and Picked Raspberry distress inks, then sprayed on Perfect Pearls Heirloom Gold mist and let it run down the tag.  I further applied the Perfect Pearls Heirloom Gold by dipping my finger into the leftover PP on my craft sheet and just applying it in various places with my fingertip (yep, more inky fingers :).  I had to sponge more Ripe Persimmon and Picked Raspberry ink on the areas where I had sprayed the Perfect Pearls because it washed some of the color away.

The Spring Greenery decorative strip die was used to cut to ivy sprays from kraft card stock, then stamped with Wendy Vecchi's Vintage Mesh background stamp in Jet Black archival ink, the misted with more Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls.  I was going to do green ivy but didn't want to introduce a cool color into my summer heat piece.  I included a couple of tiny bronze flowers with hot orange rhinestone centers.

The crinoline flower was made according to this tutorial (which created inky pinky fingers:).  The #hashtags set and Chit Chat stickers were used to create the sentiment.  I have to say again, what a blast I had playing around making this tag!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Please stop by Frilly and Funkie too and maybe even play along...and you just might be the random winner of a $25 gift certificate to The Funkie Junkie Boutique, where just incidentally you can purchase all the products I used to create this tag!

The following products were used to create the above tag.  They are available at The Funkie Junkie Boutique where Tim Holtz/Ranger/Wendy Vecchi and other name brand products are always 20% below MSRP.

  6. Hi, Linda! This tag is so pretty. I am excited to make some of my own flowers ... love your tutorials on the crinoline flowers.

I have a question for you: I purchased some crinoline as well as buckram. Unfortunately, I don't remember which is which. Is there a way to distinguish one from the other? Thanks!
