Stormy Seas

Click twice to see details close up
I had some fun playing with tissue paper, multi medium and distress stains with this piece. I had in mind dark windswept seas and knew I wanted to use the Beyond the Sea plate. I started by smearing a tag liberally with Multi Medium Matte and then smooshed some crumpled tissue paper into it. While it was wet, I dredged it through some puddles of distress stains including Weathered Wood, Gathered Twigs, Tea Dye and Picket Fence.
Then I dried it some with my heat tool and added a bit more stains directly onto the tag here and there, dried it more and sponged the edges with Black Soot. The images were stamped onto acrylic from discarded packaging, trimmed out and glued down with multi medium. The sentiment is from the Quote and Quotables plate.   I wanted to give it just a tad more interest so I edged it with a mixture of gold EP and UTEE and then added a couple of bronze filigree pieces with black pearl accents.

If you know my work, you will know this was a bit out of the box for me, but I had fun with it and really like the result.  Thanks for stopping by today to see what I made for my weekly DT piece for Artistic Outpost.  And don't forget our February Referral Challenge with a theme of Anything Goes.  You can link up your project using Artistic Outpost stamps here for a chance to win.

  3. Just magical, Linda - Romantic with a capital R, full of all that 18th/19th century yearning and huge emotional sweeping stories (I'm thinking Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, but mostly Beethoven and Mahler!!). So dramatic - a stunning background, amazing use of the stamps and altogether wonderful!!

  9. Wow, what an amazing piece, - I was enthralled with it the moment I set eyes on it! The effect of the tissue with all its texture so suits the theme and the clever stamping on the acrylic has made it merge together seamlessly. I am in awe of how you managed to put it together so beautifully without the inevitable shinyness of the acrylic coming through. Just stunning!

  12. It strikes me funny that I could stare at your tags all day. That's not the part that strikes me funny, but the fact that I love all the elements you've added to your seaside project, but I found myself staring longer at the "pre" tag! Those colors and the textures are beautiful together.

  31. I am curious, when you say you wanted to use the beyond the sea plate, what was that exactly? Can you clarify for me what you printed your light house on, it sounds like you did not stamp that directly on the tag but on something else and then glued to the tag, am I correct? It is absolutely beautiful, I love all of the texture.
