Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style - Week #2

Hello and welcome back!  I hope you all had a wonderful and creative weekend. I'm back today to share Tag #2 of my Funkie Junkie Style 12 Tags of Christmas.  I hope you are not too shocked at this one.  I know it's a huge departure from all the tags I did last year and from this year's Tag #1 too.  But this challenge is all about having fun and exploring new art.  I wanted to squeeze in a tag for Tim Holtz's September tag challenge and had an idea it might be fun to combine the two.  And then Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities 2 challenge this week is also featuring Tim's Riveted Patchwork technique on page 57 of the Compendium of Curiosities 2 book.  Since all the stars seemed to be aligned, I decided to go for the riveted theme.

I hope you aren't totally scared away from entering my Tag #2 challenge.  Remember you only have to be inspired by one thing on my tag.  If you are not into riveted metal, you could be inspired by the snowflakes, the glitter, the silver, Santa or other items on this tag.

If you are just coming across this challenge for the first time or if you need a refresher on the challenge requirements, go back to the Tag #1 post to learn all about it.

And here is a little about my tag - of course, I started with a base of metal foil tape, arranged and grunged it according to Tim's Riveted Patchwork technique.  That was definitely a fun technique for me!  After creating the base, I used the Word Play die to cut the chipboard letters which I had covered with the same riveted patchwork technique.  This time I colored it with Red Pepper alcohol in.  My gears were cut from chipboard and painted with the new Brushed Pewter metallic distress stain - that stuff is fantastic and if you haven't tried it, you should!  I still have a few bottles available in the shop for the sale price of $3.39 each.  I stamped Santa in Jet Black archival ink and colored him with Distress Markers and then painted over him with Clear Rock Candy distress crackle paint.  I didn't put in on too thick and was lucky that it didn't really soak the paper and make the distress ink run.  After it was dry, I sponged the edges with Vintage Photo DI.  The snowflakes were cut from white chipboard and also sponged with Vintage Photo DI, then covered with the new Distress Clear Rock Candy Dry Glitter.  I'm not sure how it is intended to be adhered, but I use Glossy Accents and it works great.

For the tie at the top, I used some of the Silver Tone Round Stud Button trim from my boutique.  I colored it by dripping on Red Pepper alcohol ink and when dry, lightly brushed it with Pitch Black acrylic paint dabber and wiped most of that off before it dried.  Then I tied it with the new Black Tinsel Twine.

That's it.  I had fun with this one.  Hope you will play along and have some fun too!  Don't forget, you have until December 17th to play along and there are some great prizes randomly given to those who play in all 12 weekly challenges.  Check out the requirements here.
