On the Road Again with Diesel Punk

Welcome back to another weekly challenge at Our Creative Corner. This week's hostess is Holly Keane and Holly wants us to tie our artwork into a song title. Mine is "On the Road Again" by Willlie Neslon.

So what do you think of this Diesel Punk look? What is Diesel Punk, you ask? What happened to Steampunk, you wonder? Artistic Ouposr and I are still very much in love the Victorian magic that is the rage of steampunk, however, A. O. decided to advance the timeline and the trend to a more modern look. It’s like steampunk but with a combustion engine. To us, Diesel Punk is a style that blends the “edge” of steampunk with the art and culture of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. We think of motorcycles, roadsters, red lipstick, trench coats, jetpacks, and jet engines.

I love the way this card came out using all those fab elements from that stamp set. I went with the checkered flag in the background paper and I created a bold crisp black/white look with the main stamp. I cut a main panel with the Vintage Cabinet Card die and embossed it with the TH Checkerboard texture fade and went around the outside with a very thin line of Versamark, using a Versamark pen. Then I heat embossed it with bright red EP. I stamped these two adventuresome men in Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink on white CS and then cut them out and affixed them to the embossed panel. Then I diecut another white panel, stamped more images with the Jet Black Archival Ink and edged that panel with the red EP.

For my gas station sign, the red panel is just red CS cut with a Spellbinders die and then coated with Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint. When dry, I went over it with Vintage Photo Distress Stain to accent the crackle. For the top white piece, I cut 3 thin pieces of chipboard and glued them together and then painted them with Picket Fence Distress Crackle paint. When dry, I stamped the image with Jet Black Archival Ink. The Diesel Punk sentiment was stamped on white CS cut with the Tim Holtz Tattered Banners die.

So that's it for this one. I love the crisp black, white, red theme and it makes me want to go On the Road Again, humming along with Willie Nelson. Please be sure to stop by Our Creative Corner challenge blog and sing or play along with us this week. Our other designers have lots of great inspiration to share with you!

I do like this card Linda. That checkered paper is fabulous and the embossing folder fits in perfectly.
Love the sign and the way you've crackled and aged it. I would never have thought of stamping over the crackle like you have, worked wonderfully. The red ep is fabulous around the edge of the sign too. Thanks for sharing all the details Linda.
