Haul Out the Holly, It's Time to Decorate!

Oh, I do so love the title of this week's challenge over at Our Creative Corner.  Wendy Janson is our hostess again this week and she has given us a very basic sketch and is turning us lose to decorate it!  How fun is that?  Here's her sketch:
We can decorate it any way we choose.  And as you can see, I decorated it to the hilt.  I mean really, Wendy was encouraging me - did you expect me to hold back?

As soon as I saw the sketch, I knew I wanted to use the dyed Venise lace for the lower layer.  It's actually a little more gold colored in real life, but I had to adjust the color in photo because my red flower looked too orange.  That left the rest of the card a little washed out looking.  I don't know why the camera wanted to turn the flower orangy.  I adjusted it several different ways, but couldn't seem to get rid of the orange.

To liven it up a bit, I created a tarnished gold panel and flourish, added a shabby crinoline poinsettia and an embellished snowflake and the card was done.  Sounds quick and easy right?  NOT!  I spent forever on that tarnished gold panel and flourish before I was finally satisfied.  Next time, it will be quicker.  I die cut the chipboard and then gold embossed it.  Next I ran the pieces through the Cuttlebug Textile embossing folder. Then I sponged Ranger Black archival ink over the gold embossing and then rubbed most of it off.  It looks great IRL, not so wonderful here.  Ug, why don't my photos do justice to my art? I spend forever taking pictures and editing them, sometimes over an hour for one piece.

Not many details on this one - the flourish die is by Tim Holtz, the main square panel is a Spellbinders die, the DP is old, old, old Cosmo Cricket, but still a hoarded favorite.  The Venise lace is from my Etsy shop and I dyed it with Vintage Photo reinker and water, the snowflake is also from my Etsy shop.  The shabby crinoline poinsettia can be purchased - details in this post.

Well, that's it for my sample.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Let me know if you have any questions.
