Hope is...

Over on the Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge blog, the challenge this week is to make a card with a sentiment but no image. I really love inspirational cards/sayings so this was a very enjoyable card for me to make. The problem was that there are so many quotes that I love, it was tough to decide on just one. I finally decided on this "hope" quote by Emily Dickinson.

Also, this week's challenge at The Shabby Tea Room is to make a card from scraps. So I used some scraps of K&Co. paper for the sentiment panel and the flower, The flourish was die cut with a Boss Kut die from a scrap. The frame was cut with a Spellbinders die from a scrap of thin cardboard. I cut two and glued one on top of the other to build up the thickness then coated it with chunky glitter. The two back panels are also K&Co. paper one of which was embossed with a SU embossing folder. A few chocolate colored half pearls and some vintage-type seam binding finished it off.

A Simple Thanks

For my Creative Card Crew challenge card this week I decided to simplify a bit -a clean layout with fewer layers and embellishments. I really like the way this card same out. The DP is so pretty and the layout allows more of the DP to show through. I even debated whether or not to add the glittered flourish in the corner. I had decided not to, but at the last minute I couldn't go quite so simple so I added it.

Back to my simple card. The details are few - the lovely paper is a mix of several different digital paper packs from Designer Digitals, one of which I changed the color on to coordinate with the others (using digi paper is SOO cool). The edges were inked with Antique Linen distress ink. I created the sentiment seal on my computer. I tried to match the font in the lettering on the DP - I got almost the same font. I cut it out with a circle Nestability and then I cut four more of the same sized circle out of CS and glued them together for more of a chipboard effect. Then, using a round tag die, I cut two and stacked/glued them to the back. The loop at the top of the tag die allowed me to thread a ribbon through it. The image was colored with Copics.

Our Creative Corner Sketch Challenge

I am so thankful it's Saturday! It seems like it was a long week and certainly was a tiring one for me. I'm pooped and I need a break! Maybe that's why I decided to rebel with this card. I went from brights and pastels and spring-like to this edgy, grungy card. It took me quite awhile to decide what I was going to do with this week's Our Creative Corner sketch challenge our hostess Silke Ledlow presented us with. I was tired and my mojo decided it needed a break too and took off on me. Nothing appealed to me. Then I remembered this Tim Holtz stamp set that I bought at Michael's a few weeks ago on close out. I hadn't even taken it out of the package yet. Once I remembered I had it, I knew it was exactly what I needed to get the creative juices flowing again. I just needed a CHANGE and this set provided it.

The top panel is Barely Banana, stamped with Versamark and clear embossed. Then I sponged it with Close to Cocoa ink. The DP is last year's SU Bella Birds and I used Bordering Blue and Chocolate Chip for matting. I used Close to Cocoa for distressing all the layers. The ribbon is SU's black and white gingham that I smooshed into my Close to Cocoa pad (and I have the inky fingers to prove it!). I used a Spellbinders tag die instead of the scallops on the sketch - just a bit more rebellion.

For my card this week, I chose the dogwood digi and paired it up with the scripture verse from Luke. The image was colored with Copics, cut out and popped out. The flower centers are Martha Stewart Micro Beads. I tried some fancy stitching on this. I always admire it on other's cards, but I find it very difficult to do. Mine came out a bit crooked. The paper is all SU except the gingham which is just generic scrapbooking paper from Jo-Ann's. I used an SU embossing folder and sponged the panel and all the edges with Creamy Caramel. The label is a Spellbinders die. I think I have covered all the recipe, but if you have questions, please feel free to ask.

Today is a Gift

I really love this quote. Each day truly is a gift from God and sometimes we need to be reminded to be in the moment and truly enjoy the day. It's a beautiful day in Miami, Florida. Its bright and sunny, started out cool, but will go to a glorious 75 degrees later in the day. I'll be heading out shortly to pick up a truckload of donated food from our local Feeding America foodbank to be distibuted later today to more than 100 struggling families via my church food pantry. I pray that God will help each one of us to see the simple human dignity in each one of our brothers and sisters as we distribute bags of food so their family can eat tonight.

But you probably came here to see what I had made for today's Creative Inspirations Wednesday challenge, right? I love what I have to share with you today. The papers are from a digital paper pack called Flour Sack from Raspberry Road. I love these retro prints that were used in dishtowels and tablecloths in the 50's and 60's. I thought they matched up perfectly with the apron that looks pretty retro too! The apron is a digital image from Sugar Creek Hollow and the sentiment is from Verve. Real Red and Whisper White CS are combined with this year's SU In-Colors Crushed Curry and Bermuda Bay. The punch is the Sale-a-Bration punch and just for fun I added a whisp of yellow paper ribbon. I think the card is as bright and sunny as our day today.

D is for Dog

This week the challenge at Pile it On is Furry Friends. I'm not big on animal stamps although I do have a couple. But if you are a frequent visitor here, you know I am working my way through the alphabet with these vintage alphabet flash cards. It just so happened that the next one featured a dog so I guess it was meant to be. For the D card, I immediately felt it had to be a masculine themed card and I got out my DPs from SU's Outlaw pack. It's another paper pack that has been retired for several years and I use it sparingly because I love it so much. I matched it up with Really Rust and Mellow Moss card stock, with a little bit of Chocolate chip thrown in for the "sign" I made andthe border strip. The edges are scissor distressed and were sponged first with Creamy Caramel and then Vintage Photo right on the edges. The sign holder "Man's Best Friend" was printed on my printer and silver cardstock. I immediately poured clear EP on it. The paper is sort of shiny and the ink wasn't immediately absorbed so it stayed wet enough to hold the embossing powder.

I don't know what I would use some of these alphabet cards for, but I really like the artsy effect and find them a lot of fun to make. I'm sure that some occasion will arise that I can use this one for.

Yeah, the weekend is here and it's time again for Our Creative Corner's weekly challenge. This time our hostess, Silke Ledlow, has challenged us to make an Easter card. Here's mine and as usual, I had a terrible time editing the purples in this photo so they are true to life (purples always challenge my photography and photo editing skills). Now that I set the white balance with my camera before shooting, I am getting better purples, but still not perfect.

For my sample this week, I chose this charming vintage print from the Magic Moonlight blog (free vintage digital images) and printed it out on my home printer. I used a Sellbinders die to cut the frame from Barely Banana CS and sponged it with Lavendar Lace. The gingham and two purple CSs are old Creative Memories scrapbooking paper that I had from back in the day. The edges of the gingham were also cut with a Spellbinders border die. The big silver flower? Well, I ordered some bead caps from Ebay a few weeks ago and from the auction picture, I didn't realize this one was SO BIG. It was quite a shock when I opened the package, but thought I would probably work it into a card someday - didn't know it would be quite so soon!

C is for Cat, of course

Hello and welcome again to Fabulous Friday with Sugar Creek Hollow. Friday is the day that the design team all posts their challenge cards PLUS you can go to the website and pick up your Fabulous Friday Freebie. I am having SO much fun with these vintage flash cards that have recently been released. You can buy them on the Sugar Creek Hollow site. A-D are just $5. So now I am up through C and this one I just fell in love with. I think it is something about the color combo - the rose and green are so pleasing to my eye. This sheet of DP is called Baby's Breath by Fancy Pants Designs. I have only one sheet of it and I used about a quarter of it on this card. I wish I had bought a couple of sheets so I had some in reserve.

To make the flash card, I started with the digital vintage cat image that I got free from the Graphic Fairy's website. I reduced the opacity then digitally paper pieced it onto the flashcard, printed it, trimmed it out and sponged it liberally with Creamy Caramel (my favorite distress ink color). Then I roughed up the edges with my scissors and sponged it some more, this time with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. The vanilla panel was embossed with the Victoria Cuttlebug embossing folder and sponged with Creamy Caramel, then die cut with a Spellbinders die. It was layered over a Mellow Moss panel that I had stamped with the Script BG stamp inked with Vintage Photo and likewise distressed with the same ink. A bit more scissor/Vintage Photo distressing around the edges of the other panels, a little stitching, ribbon, lace, linen thread and a button topped off the tag. Then I added some Prima flowers and a pretty silver colored bead cap and the card was finished and ready to photograph.

A Wee Bit O'Green...

...and a couple of wee folks. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! This is my DT card for the Creative Inspirations Wednesday Challenge. Our challenge this week is to make a card with the colors yellow, green and white. So I guess the green can count as a St. Patrick's greeting, right?

The image is a digi I bought a couple of months ago from Sugar Nellie. This is the first time I have used it. It's colored with Copics plus a little Stickles on her leafy wings and sponged around the edges with Barely Banana and More Mustard. The striped DP is MME and the yellow floral is Jenni Bowlin. The green gingham is from Jo-Ann's. The punch is from SU as is the sentiment. Flowers are Prima and the leaf is a MS punch.

Hope you like this fun spring-like card. I enjoyed making it. It was nice to be working with these pretty spring colors. Going Dotty...Challengewise, at Least

Greetings and thanks so much for stopping by. This is the week of the bi-weekly Creative Card Crew challenge and we are challenged to go dotty. I have so many deadlines lately that some days I think I am going dotty. But seriously, I love polka-dots so this was a fun challenge for me. I used another image from a recently discovered digital artist - Lindsay of Lindsay's Stamp Stuff. She had a great sale over the weekend (sorry, it's over now) so I purchased several sets of her digital images. She does have some freebies on her site, plus her sets are very reasonable so it's worth a visit to see if you like her style. This image is from a set called Doode Flowers. I think it looks very country, which is a style I favor. And, again, I went to my digital files for both the paper piecing and for the designer paper, which I printed on my home printer.

I used an Onare paper piercing template on the kraft card stock which I sponged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. The border punch used is the new SU one from Sell-a-Bration. I think everything else is self explanatory, but if you have any questions, I would be glad to answer them.

Vintage/Distressed Tutorial

I thought you might be interested to know that I have recently written a vintage/distressed tutorial for Sugar Creek Hollow. I joined the design team about a month ago as the tutorial facilitator and this is the first tutorial I have done for them. I know making distressed/shabby chic cards is something of a mystery to many card makers so I tried to break down the process that I use step by step. Daffodil Delight

This week, Our Creative Corner host, Silke Ledlow, has come up with a tough challenge, at least it proved to be tough for me. It's a color challenge - yellow, pink, green and brown.

I thought it was going to be a piece of cake, but NO!!! I could not find any DP that I liked with the right colors and I didn't really want to use plain colored card stock. So I spent literally hours looking through my stash, through all my digital paper files, surfing the digital scrapbooking sites trying to find the right papers to use. This is the outcome. I'm not crazy about it, but it will have to do as I have already spent waaaaaay to much time on this sample. My brown is Soft Suede and the solid pink is Pink Pirouette. I clear embossed a filigree around the pink CS for texture. The DPs are all digital, printed on my home printer. I really like the convenience of being able to shop for paper on the internet and getting an instant download.

The daffodil image is a digi from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff, an artist I just discovered yesterday. She has some great digi's and is having a 30% off sale through March 14th. Plus she has some freebies on her site. The images were colored with Copics. The sentiment is Whimsical Words from SU's recent Sale-a-Bration.

B is for Blessings

Hello and welcome to Fabulous Friday with Sugar Creek Hollow. Be sure to drop by and pick up this week's Friday Freebie. This week I have another vintage letter flash card and more fun with digital images and papers. But before I tell you what went into making this card, let me just mention blessings. You probably would have expected my post to be entitled B is for Bicycle. But in my life, B is definitely for blessings. I am keenly aware of how blessed I am and of all the many blessings in my life. I thank God every day for sending Jesus to redeem me and lead me to Him. I thank Him for things as simple as having a clean, dry bed to sleep in and enough food to eat. And I try to give back, to share what I have and to call others to be mindful of their blessings and the need to share with our brothers and sisters who are struggling to have enough food and to have shelter. I believe that those who have been given much are called to give back just as much. Just something to reflect in this season of Lent.

But I guess you came here to find out about my card. Everything you see here, with the exception of the SU Basic Black and Creamy Caramel CS, started out as a digital image and was printed on my home printer. The DP is from Designer Digitals. I changed the brown hue a bit to better match up with the Creamy Caramel CS. The vintage word studies sheet is from The Graphics Fairy's free vintage images. I digitally imposed it into the background of the digital flash card. I made it more transparent so it wouldn't overpower the flash card. I printed it, trimmed it out and distressed it a bit. The edges of the DP were scissor distressed and sponged with Close to Cocoa ink. The DP was stamped in Basic Black with the A B & C from SU's Collage Alphabet. The embossing folder used here is from Stampin' Up and the border punch is Martha Stewart. Buttons from my stash and a little embroidery floss topped off this creation.

Lots to Do - Distressing

A Lucky Charm

Greetings and welcome to my weekly Creative Inspirations post. This week our challenge is Charms. I thought most of the DTs would be using metal charms so I took a detour and used a Tim Hotltz Fragament Charm. It's clear lucite to which I glued a punched out circle with a clover on it. The clover was digitally cropped out of the Irish Audrey digital image from The Stamping Boutique. I enlarged it a bit, printed it and colored it with Copics. Then I ink distressed the edges and punched it out with a circle punch. Then I spread a little Crystal Effects on it and immediately pressed the fragament onto it.

Most of the DP is from Lucky Me from Raspberry Road Designs, a digital company plus I used Glorious Green and Green Galore CS from SU. I started out using just the green tone from Green Galore, but decided to mix it up a little. The cute little Audrey image was colored with Copics and the ink distressing was done using Frayed Burlap distress ink from Tim Holtz.

I was rushing on this a bit because I was also trying to finish a card for my DD's 21st birthday before we left to take her out to dinner. After looking at the card again later in the evening, I decided it was pretty plain and could use some more embellishing, but too late. I had already submitted it to Creative Inspirations for publication so I had to go with it that way. At least it has a ribbon and some brads to spruce it up a bit.

Ladybug Summer

It's Pile it On Sunday again and this week's challenge is The One You Must. Translated that means only one color plus neutrals. This week our sponsor is The Stamping Boutique. They have both digital and rubber images. The lucky design team was gifted with an image each to use on this week's card. I picked this darling digi image Audrey with Ladybugs and teamed it up with the Designer Digitals paper pack Ladybug Summer. Since this is a digital paper pack, I used my PhotoShop Elements 7 to change the white flourishes to black for my red/black theme of the card. I digitally cropped the ladybug image out of the paper, enlarged it a bit and printed it of a number of times to create the ladybug brads (SU's Build-a-Brad). Vintage Flashcard - A is for Apple

Happy Saturday. Hope your weekend is off to a great start! Thanks so much for stopping by to see what I have made for Our Creative Corner this week. We have a sketch challenge cooked up by the uber talented Silke Ledlow. I sort of pushed the boundries of the sketch by elongating the main image to accommodate the flash card and then using the buttons rather than scallops. I figured they have the same outline and worked.

I just love this vintage flashcard from Sugar Creek Hollow. It's actually one of the Fabulous Friday Freebies over there this week so if you like it, go grab it before it's gone. I digitally paper pieced the DP on the card from Designer Digitals and then printed the flashcard on my printer. The apple was colored with Copics. Then I cropped the apple out of the digi and resized it, printed it several times and turned it into buttons a la the technique I tried here a few weeks ago. Oh, and the red DP is also a digital paper from Designer Digitals. I'm becoming quite the digital chick, huh?

I'm very happy with the way this card came out except for one glaring error (at least to my eyes) that I made. I was really hustling to get four cards done this week by from Sunday to Wednesday night because I was leaving on Thursday to go away for the weekend. So when I made the "buttons" and applied the extra thick embossing powder on it, after they were done, I realized that I forgot to ink distress the edges before putting on the embossing powder. Too late - I didn't have time to reprint, recut, recolor and reemboss four buttons so I went with the bright white. Now I am sorry. I think when I get time, I am going to redo all four buttons because the bright, undistressed white is grating on me - LOL!!!

A Yummy Strawberry

Hello and happy Fabulous Friday to you. Fabulous Friday is the day that the Friday Freebie comes out on the Sugar Creek Hollow website. It's also the day that the designers from Sugar Creek Hollow all get together and do a DT challenge. This week our challenge is to use the following colors from SU: Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze, Pretty in Pink and Chocolate Chip. For this card, I used the SCH strawberry digital image and digitally paper pieced it. I printed it off in several sizes, used Crystal Effects on the chocolate and stickles on the green hull. I made up the sentiment seal on computer and then inserted a smaller version of the paper pieced strawberry. The more I work with digital images, the more I see advantages to using them. For example, I digitally paper pieced the strawberry. Not only could I print it off in several sizes, but I didn't have to fiddle with cutting and piecing 5 strawberry images, one of which was very tiny, manually. Very cool, huh?

Lace, Pins and Pearls

Welcome to my Wednesday post. Does it seem to you like this week is just streaking by in a blur? I was away last weekend visiting my daughter and am leaving for another family weekend on Thursday. So my whole week's DT commitments have been compressed into several days for the second week in a row. Yikes, I'm kicking out cards in record time (which is about 4-5 each for me - LOL). This week, the challenge at Creative Inspirations is Lace, Pins and Pearls.

Here's my DT card. Not much to tell. Just a few layers in Perfect Plum and Barely Banana. The DPs are digital and the flowers made with Spellbinders dies. The sentiment and brackets are from Verve, the yellow pearls are Kaiser and the tiny pin from Tim Holtz. The vintage image is from Magic Moonlight and was printed on my home printer.
