Pastels and Pearls

Hello,

Thanks so much for visiting!  And heartfelt thanks to everyone who took the time to leave me a comment after my long posting hiatus.  It's good to be back in bogland :)

Today I have another post for a Frilly and Funkie challenge.  This week I am filling in again for Zoe Hillman who is on leave.  The challenge is Pastels and  Pearls and it has another week to run so you have time to whip something up and play along with our fantastic designer team!

I used Wendy Vecchi Cornflower Blue, which I love.  I tried to water it down so it wasn't so intense by using rubbing alcohol but wasn't very successful.  I used Wendy's technique of wetting a piece of Specialty Stamping Paper thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and then dripping a bit of archival ink over it, allowing it to bleed and run.  It's a really fun and easy technique.  You can keep adding alcohol and tiny drops of ink until you get an effect that pleases you.  It's best to dry the card stock each time wth your heat tool.

I started with a half sheet of speciality stamping paper from Ranger (4x5.5") and did the archival ink technique.  Next I did a little stenciling, first using the Checkmate stencil and Watering Can archival ink, then the Layered Tree stencil with Cracked Pistachio distress ink.  I dried both with my heat tool because ink is very slow to dry on Specialty Stamping Paper.

After that, playing around with my MISTI stamp aligning tool, I stamped the bird on branch stamp from Wendy Vecchi's Simply...Art set and the lovely sentiments from Wenyd's Exceptional Art set.  The bird on the branch stamp was colored with Distress Markers and the sentiments were inked with Watering Can archival ink.  I also did a little second generation stamping with the Vintage Text Background stamp.

The die cut is the Tim Holtz Frameworks Trellis die.  It was cut from heavy chipboard and coated with Viva Decor Rusty Paper.  When it was dry, using my finger, I smeared a little Viva Decor Inka Gold - Old Silver over the die cut and the chipboard branch, which had been painted with Cracked Pistachio distress paint.  A few tiny flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts and a smattering of pearls finished off the trellis element.

To finish it off, I added a small flourish of Prima pearls and a Dream key from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit.  I'm delighted that a few people are still reading my blog after such a long absence.

Back Crafting Again With Frilly and Funkie

Hello,

If you are visiting my blog, I have to say a wholehearted thank you and welcome!  It's been almost six months since I have created anything or shared a post.  I'm so sorry to have let so much time go by.  Things sort of got away from me with the January trip to Anaheim and the Winter CHA.  And then it was crazy for a few a months at my store, The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  And right in the middle of all of that, I had to look for new space for the shop and organize the move...and then get everything settled and running again.  But we are down one team member at Frilly an Funkie for a couple of months so I'm stepping in to fill the gap.  Zoe Hillman has taken a leave of absence to move and will be back with us at the end of the summer.

The current challenge at Frilly and Funkie is Let The Words Do the Talking.  Here is my sample.  I'm not thrilled with how it turned out, but for now and for me, at least it is a start to get me back in my craft room and feeling good about it.

This is for the Funkie side of the team so I wanted something with vintage hues and sort of rough.  I started with  jumbo manila tag and stamped with Wendy Vecchi's background stamp Just Say It in Cornflower Blue archival ink.  Using the Tim Holtz Flourish stencil and Wendy Vecch's Translucent Embossing Paste, I laid down a nice layer of the translucent paste.  Once dry, I spritzed it with Antique Linen Distress Spray and let it dry.  Then I went over the high points on the embossing with  Walnut Stain distress crayon.

The boy and girl are from Found Relatives. The branches are from Southern Ridge Trading Company and the flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts. This challenge is all about the sentment and what it means to us.  I have always loved this quote from Washington Irving.  It's an old back-in-the-day Stamping' Up! rubber stamp.  When I make a tag, I always seem to struggle with what to stamp my sentiment on.   For this piece, I decided I wanted to stamp on a heart, but didn't have a heart die large enough or the right shape.  So I layered two together and stamped on them.

To top it off, I used one of the heart wing cabochons we sell at The Funke Junkie Boutique.  The bird was cut from a piece of ephemera from one of Tim Holt's packs but I don't know which pack as they are all mixed together in a drawer in my craft room.  I  used a rub-on to add one more little sentiment.

That's it for now.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
