On the Runway Wendy Style

Hi everyone, we are back On the Runway again with the Funkie week of the Frilly and Funkie challenge.  Cec is still our hostess and we are to make a project in vintage or shabby chic style that depicts sewing or fashion.  For the Funkie week of the challenge, our designers stay a bit on the grungy side of vintage.  I opted to use a couple of Wendy Vecchi stamps and stencils to create my tag.  

I started with a jumbo manila tag and blotted up some Weathered Wood ink with it and added more staining with Vintage Photo.  I stamped the fancy stitching edge from The Beauty of Art set in Jet Black Archival and did some second and third generation stamping with the Vintage Mesh stamp.  Then Weathered Wood was sponged on through the Dots and Stripes Border stencil.  

The dress form (A Form of Art set) and the lacy panel (Sentimental Art) behind it were stamped with Weathered Wood and edged with Vintage Photo.  The sentiment was stamped in Vintage Photo.  The strips were sponged randomly with both Weathered Wood and Vintage Photo.   I cut it with pinking shears in keeping with the sewing theme.  And also in keeping with the sewing theme, I unearthed my sewing machine and did some stitching on the tag.  

My frame was cut from chipboard with the Ornate Frame die, sponged with Weathered Wood and edged with Vintage Photo.  Then 2 coats of UTEE were applied to give it the deep glossy shine.  

The old fashioned high top shoe and bag are from the Sweet and Small charm collection I sell in the store.  I took two of the barrel beads I also sell and glued them end to end to hang the charms from and threaded the dyed seam binding through them before tying the bow.

On the Runway

I'm back today to share a piece I made for the new challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.  Cec is our hostess this time and she has a fun and feminine challenge called On the Runway.  All you have to do to join in is submit a fashion or inspired vintage style piece.  We hope you will play along with us!

I started this piece with the intent to just use the burlap rectangle as a backing, but I had so many fun pieces I wanted to include that it just kept growing.  I started with the Postage Stamp die cut from chipboard and covered it with another piece of card stock which was originally white.  I stamped the Distress Damask stamp in embossing ink and embossed with Weathered White EP and then sponged the entire piece with Stormy Sky.  It was originally supposed to be oriented in the other direction, but in the arranging step I decided to rotate it.  I recently got these darling little silver tone hanger charms in the boutique.  They do have a loop at the top for hanging, but for this piece I took a pair of wire cutters and snipped them off.  I cut the bodices out of vintage label paper and created the skirts, one with lace from my shop and the other with Melissa Frances vintage crepe paper.  A bit of lace on one and a silver tone floral corner on the other decorate the waist lines.  

I have a favorite stamp set from Papertrey Ink that has so many wonderful button card, buttons and sewing sentiments in it.  I used it for the stamping, creating a vintage button where I placed some pretty buttons from my shop.  

I created faux fabric swatches cut out from the Maja Design Sofiero collections and hung them on with an acrylic rhinestone safety pin.

I love these little vintage style wire hangers from Melissa Frances.  They work so perfectly for creating wall hangings.  I topped it off with some seam binding crinkle ribbon dyed with watered down Aged Mahogany distress stain and embellished it with a heart and a barrel bead which I painted silver with silver alcohol ink mixative.

I decided to play around with the Kudzu Kafe plate plus I used a few of the stamps from Generation Redux.  I started by stamping most of the images in Jet Black archival onto a jumbo manila tag.  Then I filled in the background by stamping the ticking stamp first and second generation using Potting Soil archival ink.  Next embossing ink was sponged on through a Wendy Vecchi stencil and I embossed with Weathered White embossing powder.  Time for color - I mixed a little Peeled Paint and Gathered Twigs distress stain on my craft sheet and blotted up the color with the tag.  The embossed leaves resisted the color entirely and I felt they were too white.  So I took a paint brush and dry brushed on Leaf Green archival ink

Next I cut a panel from white card stock using the ATC die, stamped the woman in black archival, masked her off and stamped the ledger stamp from Ephemera Backgrounds using Potting Soil archival ink.  And the, of course, I sponged the entire piece with Vintage Photo distress ink to age it.  I cut a couple of tags using the Tim Holtz tag die from white CS, stamped the sentiment and then overstamped using the ticking stamp, second generation so it didn't totally obscure the sentiment.  A third tag didn't seem to work for Be Honest so I just sniped it out and clipped it to the main panel.  The bronze heart, barrel bead and twine are all from my shop.
