Soft as a Butterfly's Wing

Hello friends!  I'm back today with a tag that I made for Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities 2 challenge #7.  This time the challenge is being sponsored by eclectic Paperie and we are using the brushless watercolor technique found on page 49 of Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities II.  I love trying all these techniques and I had fun with this one, but I'm not really sure I like my tag.  The technique came out great but I think the design or the colors are a bit lackluster.

Working again with one of the jumbo tags, a recent new addition to my boutique, I was trying to go for a very soft gentle feel with it using stamps from the Artistic Outpost Flower Market set and the colors Milled Lavender, Dusty Concord and Mustard Seed.  I used a sticky back canvas Distressed Doily die cut that was floating around on my desk left over for yesterday's F&F piece.  It had been run through the Damask texture fade and dry brushed with gesso.   I created a double UTEE embossed flourish using the Elegant Flourishes die and plain gray chipboard.  After die cutting, I painted it white with a Snow Cap paint dabber and the dabbed on Crushed Grape distress stain, gave it two coats of UTEE and while the UTEE was still hot, burned my fingers and sprinkled on Martha Stewart micro beads.

My flower was made from ivory felt, cut with the Tattered Pinecones die and rolled.  I took a detail tip water brush, dipped it into Dusty Concord distress stain and painted the edges, then spritzed it good with water and let the distress stain wick into the felt.  For good measure, I then spritzed it with Perfect Pearls Perfect Pearl mist.  My jumbo ticket was stamped and then coated with one coat of UTEE and then sponged with Vintage Photo DI for that blotchy, worn effect that  I love.  I finished it off with a loop of jute ribbon and burlap string.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and for any comments you care to leave.  I so appreciate your encouragement!

Kraft and Twine

Hello!  Thanks so much for stopping by today to see what I have to share for our new Frilly and Funkie challenge.  I am the hostess this fortnight and my challenge is Kraft and Twine, two of my favorite crafting materials.  It's a super easy challenge, a little on the shabby side, so I am hoping we have lots of folks who will want to join in.

Here's my creation using lots of kraft - the corrugated cardboard kind and also the sweet little kraft sleeves.  For my twine, I used a two ply twine coated with gesso to give it a shabby feel and some of the burlap string from my shop.  I finally broke open my first pack of Claudine Hellmuth Sticky Back Canvas and used the Distressed Doily die to cut it, then embossed it with the Regal Flourishes texture Fade.  I used the same texture fade on the kraft sleeve and dry brushed gesso over  both the sticky back canvas and the kraft sleeve, as well as on the little butterfly.  Several layers of the corrugated cardboard were cut with the Tattered Florals die as well as some crinoline to make up the shabby flower that I topped with a mini rosette.  The Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers ticket die cut fits perfectly into the kraft sleeve and I stamped my sentiment on it.
That wraps it up for this piece.  If you have any questions, you can leave them in the comments section.  I hope you will stop by Frilly and Funkie to see what our talented team has to share.

May Tag Inspired by Tim Holtz

Hi folks, hope your weekend has been great so far!  I'm back with a tag I worked on most of the afternoon - not exactly a quick and easy one.  But, hey, I got this one in under the wire :).  It's is my tag for Tim Holtz's May tag.  I had pretty much everything he used on his, but I wanted to change it up some so here is my take on the inspiration he gave us.

I took regular tissue paper and spritzed it with a solution of water and Vintage Photo reinker.  Then stamped in Ranger Coffee Archival Ink with images from TH's Haberdashery and also from Wendy Vecchi's A Form of Art set, just to change it up a bit.  I adhered the tissue paper with Glue n' Seal, but I think Tim's way of using the glue stick is better.  With the Glue n' Seal or Multi Medium Matte (my normal way of gluing) you must be very careful not to rip the tissue paper.  I dried it with my heat tool and then sponged it lightly with Walnut Stain DI.  I adhered the half doily with a generous amount of Multi Medium Matte rubbing it in with my finger and also dabbing a bit of Tattered Rose Distress Stain on it and blending it in with my finger.  When dry, I sponged it lightly with Walnut Stain DI.

I broke out the new Harlequin Border Decorative Strip die and used it with some Kraft Core'dinations, lightly sanded with my Sanding Grip.  My seam binding was dyed with a few drips of Bundled Sage reinker and water and woven through the openings in the Harlequin die cut.

You probably recognize the metallic heart wings from my post on Frilly and Funkie last week.  I finally found a home for them.  I got my melting pot out and instead of dipping mulberry paper flowers into to the hot UTEE, I dipped a canvas flower (made with the Tattered Pinecones die) and canvas leaves (made with the Tattered Leaves die) for a very interesting effect.  My other tiny flowers were cut with the Tattered Flowers Decorative Strip die from white CS, sponged with Aged Mahogany DI and then dipped into the hot UTEE effectively making them enameled flowers.

I've listed below all the products I used on this piece that can be purchased at my Funkie Junkie Boutique.  Don't forget about the Memorial Day sale - 10% off everything in the store through May 28th.
